Very Overwhelmed

It so tempted to get caught in that completionist trap of feeling the need to complete everything and being overwhelmed that no normal human could… I speak from experience there… Just play the game, do things, have fun, kill things with weird and awesome weapons… It’s Borderlands, it’s awesome… If that means you’re Norfleeting every few minutes to get a second wind or dropping a million longbow stormfronts, then fine, it’s your game and it takes time to adjust to the higher difficulty levels… Over time you’ll get more confident and start crushing stuff like everybody else using any gear you want…

There’s loads of great info if you search the forums on builds and weapons sets for every character and plenty of comments if you want to dig deeper. There’s lots of great videos on youtube as well that I still learn stuff from even after hundreds and hundreds of hours with the game…

Depends which major player you ask. Some of the most ‘major’ are notorious for being wrong about a great deal of things. That’s the danger of incomplete data-mining and confirmation bias.

Pets ignore enemy damage reduction, which is part of what keeps them viable at OP8. Some of their DPS skills could scale better, but that isn’t new to the OP levels.

I have video of DT tanking two of OP8 Terra’s beam lasers plus his ground pound for over 20 seconds.
I can’t believe he only got third place in the science fair.

Yes, both Deathtrap and Axton’s turret(s) scale-even all the way up to OP8 (L80). Even though their damage potential may be decreased on the OP levels, they are by no means lacking.

For whatever reason, I’ve noticed that some people seem to lament that either the turrets or Deathtrap can’t do as much damage as the actual characters can. Well, that’s the point. They exist to distract and draw attention from enemies. When playing on OP8 difficulty, it wouldn’t be a wise idea to depend completely on my turret to kill an enemy. My turret can’t chuck a storm of Baby Makers or spam Fastballs for absurd amounts of damage. Axton, on the other hand, can.

As for things like Digistruct Peak on higher difficulty levels, all characters can certainly manage it just fine. Once you figure out the lay of the course, you can develop specific strategies that will really help you in completing it. Like a lot of other things in life, it takes practice.

Awesome post Triad_Thunder! While Gaige (without the absurd anarchy builds) and Axton are a little underpowered compared to the other characters at the higher OP levels, they are perfectly viable and can be played in similar fashion at OP8 to other levels, it’s just harder like OP8 is supposed to be.

One thing I wanted to add to the OP: If your struggling with one of the classes and none of the playstyles of that character seems to work properly for you, change to another class!
I am a terrible Zero-player, but I like the idea of smacking people in the face, so I switched to Krieg. I like crowd-control, but my Axton is not pushing out enough colorful numbers, so I play Maya.

My point is, that you should think about the playstyles you would like and then pick any character that seems to fit that role. If you do not know how the characters are playing on higher Levels, search up something like “Borderlands 2 Gunzerker/Siren/whatever-gameplay” on YouTube .

I can’t agree more. I use Axton for OP runs and use the turrets (with mag-lock, longbow), tossing them up high for a distraction. The End Boss (OP 7 & 8) will totally ignore me until the turrets are destroyed or time out (rarely does he destroy them).

I’ve always found Gaige & Axton scale quite well to OP levels. Death Trap and twin Turrets cut down most anything I throw them at, save bosses. I cannot tell you how many second winds I’ve gotten from pets.
