I was thinking about saving a lot of points for golden keys in BL3. Right now the purple rarity weapons you can purchase are locked at level 10 and 4000 a pop. The keys for BL2 and the pre-sequel are 1500 points for 10 and the golden chest in BL3 can not only drop legendary items but up to 8 items per opening. I have to assume that to purchase keys in BL3 it will either be more expensive or you won’t have the option for awhile after release but this sounds like it might be the way to go rather than purchasing the currently available bl3 weapons. Unless of course you want to get the legendary maliwan for doing so which I will certainly be doing. Just waiting so see if season 4 starts before launch that way I can spin the weaponizer 1 more time and save 4000 points.

What are y’all’s thoughts on this? Has there been any sort of information about bl3 golden key purchases through the VIP program that I may have missed?

If you want the Maliwan legendary, you’ll have to drop points for it. Only the first 3 seasons count towards the weapon.

If you want Maliwan smg you need have 8 checkmarks from Season 1-3.

ahh ok. Didn’t know the 4th season’s weaponizer spin wouldn’t count. Thanks for the info

That’s a fair point. I only need 1 more so I’m just going to wait until the 12th and if season 4 hasn’t come out yet and I can’t spin the weaponizer wheel I’ll spend the 4000 points.

So I’m bouncing this because I was about to make my own topic.

I see a lot of talk about how the points system is set up now. Honestly, I couldn’t really care about the maliwan legendary, but I kind of need to know in the next little bit if I’ll ever be able to spend my points on BL3 keys. I’d planned on stockpiling points for them since I’m not a huge fan of any of the heads/skins and… I really don’t need BL1/TPS/BL2 gear.

Still, If I’m never going to be able to spend the motherlode-

Yeah, I thought that was where we were at currently.

Hopefully we get some clarification on it, cause I’d hate to have had to have jump through the clients hoops just to watch these ■■■■■■■ dispensary as if from some form of slut magic the day of release.

Not sure about spending VIP Points on Golden Keys. I just hope someone brings back the cellphone app that tracks and notifies you of new Shift Codes. The one that was available when BL2 was still on Xbox 360 was incredibly helpful.

With the insane marketing campaign and the VIP Program I would say its a safe bet that we will see all sorts of goodies over the life of BL3.

I wonder if the Legendary Maliwan weapon will scale to your level or not. It says the other items you can get will scale to your level, so I want to assume this one does as well, so unlocking it before being max level might be a waste.

I unfortunately often feel like I’m lacking critical information when it comes to BL3. Gearbox could definitely improve on that point.

BL3 weapons are lvl 10, probably the legendary too.

Is it no longer possible to use points to buy weapons for bl1/2? I’d totally spend the points to buy 5weapons for bl1/2 just to get the maliwan SMG… but when I go to https://borderlands.com/en-US/vip-rewards/ there’s literally no option at all to spend points on weapons.

Does that mean season 3 is over and there’s no way to earn the SMG now? And season four is about to start any day now?

Why can’t we use our VIP points to buy golden keys like we can for the other games? I don’t care about cosmetics or level 10 weapons. I didn’t spend the time redeeming codes and watching videos for that…I did it based on the assumption that I could redeem points for golden keys - a fair assumption since that option was available for all the other BL games.

I’ve seen them give away a few on twitter for BL3, but I missed them all because they expired in like an hour. And each time it was for ONE key. Lame.

I wouldn’t give out hope. The BL2 launch was… hectic for keys, so it makes sense they’d dial it back this time. A lot of th eones that got ran out at that time were limited, like 25,000 uses before the key gave out (I think they were using it as some form of baselining shifts readiness). Plus, it feels like they’re a lot less important in bl3 than they were in bl2, where they were just… big major road block clearers. If you had a ■■■■ run, you could turn in a key and get a gun that could carry you to the next 5 level milestone.

I think it’s still eventually going to happen… but it may be a month or two down the line.
