I need to make this post separate because this conversation needs to be steered back to the initial point.

And that point is there is too much sexual reference in the game. There is nothing in the game that justifies the sexual / relationship stories that are tacked onto almost every quest dialogue. it just isn’t necessary and I think prudes like myself as well as deviants who get a kick out of that would be better served and just as satisfied if it were toned down - or at least had an option.

The conversation started to get skewed towards values, feminism, objectification and the influence of SJW - but NONE OF THOSE is the point.

The point is too much sexual reference, doesn’t matter if it is LGBT or Hetero - its just too much sexual references. That is all this topic is about - sexual references in the game, not why and how and who or what type.

Mhh. Me and thousands of fangirls drawing sexy packs to drool over will disagree. A mans chest/torso/body can be extremely sexy and sexualised, even if the shown bodyparts are “not ment for reproduction”.

For example womens legs or butt - do we make babies with? No. Do we feed babies with our legs? No. Are these parts sexualized and sometimes sexy? Hell yeah.

The acceptance of naked male bodyparts in our western culture has nothing to do with the individual personal perception of a shown sixpack or well-trained chest - Just because its not banned from TV it does not mean its not sexy or sexualized from a viewers standpoint. Its a matter of perspective.
(Parfume advertisement or example - male & female models are always sexualised or romantised)

At the end: Maybe you should ask actual girls & women what they find sexy and what parts of the male body we sexualize, fantasize or drool over, instead of drawing early conclusions.

No. As example lets imagine a naked man and a woman. They are simply both naked. The viewer is the one who objectifies a person (often for various reasons).
In the natural state there are simply two barechested humans. Theres no real no law, no pressure, no reason to objectify any of the two, or one over the other.
If you think every barechested women gets objectified by default - sorry thats just not true.

Its just, half of my fanarts show males with naked chests. I got nearly 3k followers just by drawing such stuff. All female, all find male bodies as sexy as I do. And I know ALOT of artists who do the same for lols and drools, so - yeah, I think many women find naked chests hot.

Krieg was extremely sexy because he was not just well-built but also the most eloquent psycho ever. I love his lines & his meat-poetry even more than his body, the mix makes the magic :heart:

That’s definitely it for me with Krieg. His voice and his dialogue make him attractive as hell, and the abs just complement the picture. Sexual stereotypes are everywhere, but people are beautiful because you fall in love with them; it’s not the other way around. I think Janey’s sexuality in the Pre-Sequel actually captures something of that, and it’s developed really wonderfully in Tales from the Borderlands.

I don’t think either women or men’s bodies are inherently sexualised because they have their tops off. Without being too personal, the times I usually see women’s bodies are either in swimming pool changing rooms (not usually sexy places, just businesslike) and when they’re breastfeeding - again, not sexual, just normal, though sometimes treated with a troubling hostility.

The Pre-Sequel doesn’t seem overly sexualised to me and I don’t think it’s ideological, though discussion of it does often reveal our prejudices, so I would say it’s thought-provoking.

SEXY and SEXUAL are two separate things. A man’s CHEST and a woman’s BREASTS are not the same. A mans’ chest may be SEXY, but a woman’s breasts are SEXUAL - get it? And it is accepted not only in modern society, which has nothing better to do than to obsess over stupid stuff like this, but has bee for time immortal. None of your activism is going to change that because there are other people involved - called men who do not and will never think that way, sorry.

As for your personal attack, you don’t know WHAT I am. You don’t know my sexuality, sexual preference or anything about me, so before you give advice ask questions - or better yet, find out if someone respects you that way before giving advice. Who gives advice to total strangers anyway. I’ll tell you this though - i am married, and one of us is female, so much for your “get to know some females” line. the females I know have the same reservation - or are you saying females have some kind of hive mind and all think alike?

And as for your last point -a woman can be objectified by her BREASTS. CAN BE. A man cannot be objectified by his CHEST - not in our current culture. maybe some alien culture will touch down and get all hot and horny over a man’s naked chest. maybe they will have some sort of weird biology that makes alien births out of a man’s chest and that’s all the aliens will describe when talking about a man’s attributes. but that hasn’t happened and a man without a shirt, in today’s society is just some dude without a shirt. A woman is naked without a shirt because breasts are not chest. woman have breasts and those breasts are part of the sexual makeup of a woman, who is different from a man. Just because you cannot come to terms with that doesn’t make it any less true.

No. I don’t get this at all. Please explain further. To be biologically accurate, women have breasts to feed their children. We don’t actually need them to have sex.

Well, that totally depends on the situation and the observer.
A male doctor could surely see a naked woman, without sexual objectification of her body.
Sure, treating her as his patient is objectification in some way, but more in the sense of keeping a professional distance.

Also, a man with no shirt is considered ‘naked’ to a certain degree. Try walking into a fancy restaurant that way, you’ll see what I mean. :wink:

Also, just to be on topic, I’m with Giu on this one:

I fail to see overly sexualized characters/situations in the Borderlands franchise.
Sure, there’s a lot of Innuendo-based humor and so on. But that’s ‘harmless’ adult fun, after all these aren’t really games meant for kids, so there’s gotta be some room for that.

Basically, if Borderlands has too much sexual references/content, then the Witcher Series needs therapy. :grin: (Just kidding here, those are great games.)

Just seeing a naked body, as a doctor… is not objectification. It is the inference of beliefs behind what you see. And we aren’t talking about pure nakedness. We are talking about what the LARGER SOCIETY views as SEXUAL. A man with no shirt on is not “sexual” or lets put it more correctly to the point - pornographic. that is referred only to women - and not in a doctors office (that’s just a nonsensical comparison).

And there is a difference between action and porn. When people go to see even the most violent of action movies, they are not expecting to to explicit porno scenes. They expect heads blown off and that’s ADULT (actually Borderlands is MATURE entertainment, not ADULT, which infers XXX ratings). Just because there is violence in the game doesn’t mean “all bets are off - lets go pornographic too!”.

What about the rest of my post? And Ill say publicly here that I honestly meant the statement, was not trying to call a person that on the sly.

In any case, Im done here. Nobody has shown any difference, and now there is a mod in the topic who isn’t as reserved in opinion as I am.
