That’s definitely it for me with Krieg. His voice and his dialogue make him attractive as hell, and the abs just complement the picture. Sexual stereotypes are everywhere, but people are beautiful because you fall in love with them; it’s not the other way around. I think Janey’s sexuality in the Pre-Sequel actually captures something of that, and it’s developed really wonderfully in Tales from the Borderlands.
I don’t think either women or men’s bodies are inherently sexualised because they have their tops off. Without being too personal, the times I usually see women’s bodies are either in swimming pool changing rooms (not usually sexy places, just businesslike) and when they’re breastfeeding - again, not sexual, just normal, though sometimes treated with a troubling hostility.
The Pre-Sequel doesn’t seem overly sexualised to me and I don’t think it’s ideological, though discussion of it does often reveal our prejudices, so I would say it’s thought-provoking.
