Weapons Grinder+

Hm, are they all level 50s? Because if so, they’re probably locked at that limit, which only makes it worse when they are designed with specific parts. There seems to be something wrong with the loot pool. People are reporting some legendaries being dropped repeatedly, and others being completely unheard of because they just don’t drop.

Honestly, I’m not very into legendaries, I don’t want the gun that everyone has. And for people worried about making guns too strong by upgrading them, I will kindly direct you towards the most common legendaries and already op builds using them.

I don’t know if I want full part customization, but I wouldn’t mind something like the Kanai’s Cube from Diablo 3. Spend a lot of resources to reroll a gun with different random parts, or reroll annointments to try and get the one you want. Maybe even be able to pay to add a random annointment to a gun.

But I don’t think I’d want to just put in a recipe, no matter how onerous, and get the perfect weapon with the perfect parts you want.

I see where you’re coming from, and that is an alternative if they wouldn’t want there to be too much control over parts. There could always be limits to the number of parts we could change, or what parts could be changed. I just want to feel like after hundreds of hours of grinding, I’m actually making progress towards the gun I want.

There’s a ton of ways to get weapons and this is just another one is all

NO JUST NO. And I truly mean that. Please god no.

You mean for weapon customization? Why do you not want it? I genuinely wish to know.

There is a gunsmith already in the game. I was so hyped for that questline, with the way you can break down the weapon view into pieces like that I genuinely thought that was the way they were going with that. Got slapped with a big old nope after finishing the story line and all side quests. That one hurt my soul a little.

You’re right, but I doubted it was in there yet. I know in BL2 there was a mod to make your own weapons, so it shouldn’t be difficult to do. And I doubt any gun we could customize could compare to the legendaries we’ve thus far seen, so them being op is unlikely.

I guess it could be introduced by making a quest feature that guy, but probably give his character a bit of a makeover. He looks like a generic npc.

And then there’s always a random MH3 modifier that renders it useless. And MAYBE you have to kill the grinder boss with that modifier to use his machine!!!?

Gah. If there’s missions that require specific mayhem modifiers, I’m not doing them unless this is the reward.

Because, as I’ve said before. I want my borderlands to be borderlands. Half the fun for me is farming new gear. Not sitting in front of grinder like the pre sequal.

Yep. It’s about grinding to get weapons, not grinding together weapons.

I mean. It would be optional.

Wait what??? Do you not remember the game breaking black weapons from bl2?

Just don’t want it. The pre sequal was diabolical because you relied on the grinder to get gear. That’s just not how borderlands should be played in my opinion.

Wait, did you rely on that thing to spit out something worth of shooting? I only ever got garbage.

But it wouldn’t be. If you make a grinder-like system that is actually any good and does allow you to merge parts and essentially craft your perfect weapon, then the endgame isn’t farming, it’s crafting.

And while I don’t mind crafting, I don’t want it to be the endgame for Borderlands. That’s not what this game is about, and has never been about. Killing stuff should always be the primary way you get better stuff.

Which is why I recommended something akin to Kanai’s Cube or Bloodshard vendor in Diablo 3. It’s not a place you sit and stare at trying to craft something perfect. You go there, dump some inventory and resources into it, have it spit some random stuff back out at you, maybe, once in a while, you get something better, but usually not.

The core of that game, though, is still farming content and getting most of your stuff via bosses/world drops. That’s how I feel Borderlands should remain, and why a full on crafting system would be contrary to what the the Franchise is about.

So, what if the system required grinding, to acquire very specific guns to sacrifice for their parts, and for eridium which would have to have its drop rate reduced, and then have a random reroll system like other people have mentioned. There won’t be a perfect gun, just one that is optimal to a specific build, and keep in mind that any gun that someone could get from this would be able to be looted from any source. They’ll always have their weaknesses; better damage sacrificed for more accuracy, stuff like that. And, legendaries would always be better. I see everyone already loaded with legendaries! Only a handful of epics, this could give them at least a shot at being somewhat useful. And, if anyone is concerned with making one too strong, then they’ll always be subpar to legendaries. Hell, legendaries could be made un-upgradeable. Go grind for those for a few hundred hours, they’ll always be better in this game. I just want to make it so when I spend the little time that I get to play, i actually feel like it has a point. They added the weapon mail system to make sure you actually got weapons you might like one way or another. You could potentially spend hundreds of hours grinding, and you will be nowhere closer to getting the gun you truly want. I just want to give the grind a direction, something to contribute to at the end of the day.

Once again, you’ve turned the endgame into crafting.

I don’t want a crafting endgame. I don’t want to stare at menus to get the perfect item. I want imperfectness so that I’m forced to experiment with new builds and try to find ways to make the gear I do get work.

That’s part of the game. Playing with what you’re given and trying to build the best and most powerful setup with it. You are asking for a way to short circuit that and go straight to a perfect loadout. Okay, then what?

I guess if you’re trying to “beat” Borderlands, this makes sense. But this isn’t a game that you “beat”, and I sincerely hope they don’t turn it into one by turning to a crafting endgame.

I definitely don’t want the endgame to be an insane grind path to get what I want through crafting. Because now everyone has to go through a pre-determined grind path, that is apparently going to be super stupid grindy just to get the best loot.

I just don’t see how to make crafting feel good in this franchise. It just feels counter to the spirit of the game, and I still feel the Grinder in TPS was the single worst feature in it, and ultimately the reason why it’s the Borderlands game I’ve played the least (because I liked almost everything else about it).

The problem with is that everyone uses legendaries. These guns won’t compete with that. They won’t surpass them, so they’ll never be as OP or broken as them. If your argument is that it’ll allow guns to be too good, then you’d have to say the same thing about legendaries.
