Just been playing some HW Classic and played through Cataclysm… and you know what? My sentiments have returned to bitterness. It’s been over a year since the game’s release and the new patch that fixes the formations problem is supposedly coming out “soon” but we haven’t really gotten a fixed date for that yet. I know the Remaster is gorgeous but honestly looks mean nothing when the game itself is broken. Yes, broken. I said it, and I mean it. Maybe less applicable to HW2 Remastered but I certainly dislike playing HW1 Remastered as my fighters and corvettes fly erratically even when given a Delta Formation, never mind the problems with Sphere.

I’m glad Gearbox has kept a dedicated team to fix this issue. I’m glad Gearbox has given us a way to play Homeworld 1 & 2 (Classic) via a digital platform like Steam - albeit with some glitches and fixes that need looking into. I’m glad they gave us a gorgeous remaster. BUT something as fundamental to the game as the ships just flying like they’re supposed to? That should have been sorted from Day One. Just another example of modern gaming - it’s all about the looks, but when that release date comes around the corner, upper management wants it pushed out before Christmas and we get a Beta Release that remains virtually unchanged for over a year. That kind of thing just pisses me off. Again, I’m grateful, but also… you can’t erase this from happening the way it did.

That’s nice. It’s also irrelevant and ignorant of the realities of remastering a niche product like Homeworld.

I believe they’ve already mentioned how utterly complex and near impossible it was to try to implement HW1 mechanics on an engine designed for HW2 only.
As they’ve mentioned many times HWR is not really comparable to HW1, least of all because they run on very different engines.

But now that people have complained so much about the formations problem they are now working hard on a new “patch” though I would personally call it a “Service Pack” considering the amount of improvements it will contain not to mention the possible dropping of the BETA tag.
But even when the patch comes out do not expect it to be exactly like H1WC, it will most likely be slightly different to it in many ways maybe even better?

As for the release date saga this is somewhat inevitable when it comes to coding and especially when working with an engine that is 13 years old. The only reason we think that it’s taking a long time is because the Devs decided to show us and talk to us about the patch perhaps a bit too early. On the internet when we hear about something like a patch being in the works we want it the next day, even if that’s no where near possible. So yes, it’s taking a while, that’s good in some ways because it means they want this to be perfect or at least very very good. It’s better for them to not give a release date than give one and then either miss it or force an unfinished product out.

But let me guess sastrei, you’re not actually going to let the user in on those realities that you’re privy to…? That wouldn’t be as fun as writing a quick, condescending remark, I reckon.

The user is more than justified for being miffed at the broken HW1 formations over a year after release, along with what many would agree was a broken game in general upon release with the amount of bugs and crashes that were experienced, never mind broken gameplay mechanics.

Thankfully most of them have been sorted by now, and credit to the remaining dev team for doing so, but that doesn’t mean that HWR can’t be criticised for being essentially a visual update to the series, with little to no gameplay improvements (or indeed corrections to many gameplay elements that were broken) in the remaster thus far.

Fascinating, in the same post you complain about Remastered not being a carbon copy of the originals AND complaining that Remastered is just a carbon copy of the originals without any improvements. That said I think it delivered rather spectacularly on everything they promised. Now while I can’t speak for ‘the many’ I can cite any one of dozens of reviews that agree. Who are your ‘many’?

Force and lazer said most of what I was gonna say.

Essentially, HW2 never had HW1 formations, so saying HWR was “broken” for not adding a brand new feature is absurd.

“Fascinating”: That’s a good start to a defence of someone who I criticised for sounding condescending…

Can you clarify as to what you’re actually saying here? At first I wasn’t even sure if it was me you were responding to, because everything you say here is seems like a non sequitur to my comment besides the reference to my remark on the “many” dissatisfied people that you seem to have taken issue with.

I’m basically saying people are justified in many of their grievances with the game currently. I’m not saying I share them.
in the same post you complain about Remastered not being a carbon copy of the originals
…No? Again, I’m saying that people are justified in being miffed by the HW1 gameplay mechanics that were broken or completely absent from HWR, and continue to be a year later.
AND complaining that Remastered is just a carbon copy of the originals without any improvements

Again, it’s the lack of functioning HW1 mechanics that I’m mostly referring to as justification for players’ annoyance with the game. If the game was released as a graphics update with all gameplay elements from the originals intact, it would certainly receive no criticism from me, or many others, based on their problems with the game that they’ve articulated.

The many I refer to are the large group people who won’t ever respond to your euphoric “it delivered rather spectacularly on everything they promised” remark, because they have basically left the community to play other games because of their disappointment at expecting either an improved homeworld game, or one with just the updated graphics and preserved gameplay, and receiving neither. At launch, they couldn’t even get the campaign finished in many cases even if they wanted to as a result of problems with crashes and other major bugs. And good luck if they expected a functional multiplayer experience.

Can you cite the raving reviews for the game that doesn’t consist of steam users with 6 hours played, or vague reviews from game critics that don’t go into any detail about what the game achieved, I’m genuinely curious to read them.

Once more, because the community here seems to rabidly oppose anything resembling negativity, I’ll reiterate that I have few grievances with the game personally, but I have nothing but contempt for the regular belittling of people who are critical of the game that I have seen for months now by veteran members of the community - a dwindling community, I would argue.

Why is this thread still active?

and I have nothing but contempt for the three to five persons coming sporadically here and always complaining about the same things without even taking the time to read what happened since their last visit, when there is a regular flow of proof (mainly images ang gifs) about what is currently worked on by the devs.
See, easy
That’s the only reason why we’re fed up with certain of those people. I never saw anyone belittling newcomers. The persons you’re talking about have been here for months (sometimes from the beginning even), repetitively provocating with their empty reasoning.

Could we just stop this please ? Everyone is entitled to their opinion as long as we stay within the forum rules, so just leave it be and don’t waste your time and energy on this pointless debate (which we had several times already …).

I think this thread should just be closed, as drahkas suggested. It doesn’t really have a goal anymore, besides being a place of frustration releasing (for the two “sides”, even if I would prefer us to stay One, as a community)

Let’s change the topic.
Well…I’m done…with anchovies on my pizza.
I hate them

Same here, but with cucumbers.

And I hear you say “WTF ? Cucumbers on a pizza ?”
And I’ll tell you that you’re not wrong. I just have a weirdo title to defend

What’s the thing with the hate on Pineapple though? I mean sweet and sour is a thing, why can’t pineapple be a thing :frowning:

I like Pineapple and I like pizza (a lot :D) but combined is just wrong ^^.
