What are your deal breakers for pre-ordering BL3?

I think BB is how they would have wanted BL to have gone but realised they would have destroyed the franchise if they took BL MMO. So BB is effectively a remake of BL as MMO.

I am interested to see what BL3 is going to contain but I can wait now till a GOTY comes cheap on Steam Sale if I have to. If Gearbox want me in earlier and at full price the have to stop the shannigans of the past, and clearly indicate what we can expect from the game in a more technical experience and not just marketing blurb. Stuff like more guns, more enemies, bigger areas does not cut it when they also change the feel of how the game is played. More is fine but more of something completely different may not be. I have buyers remorse for TPS and that is something I never expected for a BL game.

MMO is a dealbreaker for preorder…at least for me.

If they were able to keep the loot system and add some other elements…I 'd probably still buy it…but I doubt I could be convinced to preorder no matter what.

I just hope they don’t get tooooo ā€œdifferentā€ā€¦

There is nothing wrong with this Genre…it’s a success and besides Destiny…Borderlands fills a unique niche that they have exploited very effectively for the last few years.

But I understand the draw of MMO and it is definitely attractive to a company. My two sons, an accountant and a school teacher just got back fro the DOTA 2 International Tournament in Seattle. BIG money…18 million in prizes and 6 mil alone to the winning team. Valve is making a FORTUNE! And my sons said they had the time of their lives just being at the tournament and watching…

These. If it is these, I would be hesitant to buy it at all. Especially the MMO part. I don’t like the idea that I’m forced to play on a server with other people and they can interfere with whatever I’m doing and I can’t do anything on my side to stop it (booting, changing online settings, ect.). I already don’t play with randoms for a reason.

MMO would be a deal breaker. Other than that i will probably preorder unless it is just wildly not what i am expecting. I really loved BL1, BL2 and in fact TPS. So I realize OP didn’t really ask me, but even I have a deal breaker.

love the idea of a MMO and online only if it’s done kinda like destiny but with the BL flare.

The deal for pre-order is already broken for me and was done with the season pass for TPS

MMO is a dealbreaker for me period. It’s not my type of game and even if it is Borderlands, I wouldn’t buy it. I hope that’s not what they plan on doing, it would be a shame to never finish off a series I love.

Yeah, if Borderlands will become online only, I won’t be playing it.

Why the constant mmo fear with bl3? I don’t get it.

Here I think this is how it starts

To me it seems like the next logical step (IMO)
but I still would never preorder it.

The mmo talk far outdates that. I just think if gearbox wants to make an mmo they will do it with a new IP, in fact they have a another announced IP.

Just like they did a pvp shooter with battleborn, not borderlands pvp.

One hire meaning they will totally change a game seems odd to me.

Creative directors from an MMO can still focus on the massive aspect. It would be a big shift for me if it went full MMO though, as I tend to prefer SP games. I don’t always have the time or patience for all of the trading twaddle that tends to slow things down in any MP environment.

Actually the developers said in an interview that the only reason they didn’t do that is because the borderlands world didn’t have in enough of a scope to achieve the premise.
Read this.
What i’m saying is that creating new IPs is always a risky thing (even for rockstar). It’s easier to sell people a brand they already know

And yet gearbox made battleborn and are working on another new IP as well.

So companies fear risk and lack creativity others embrace fear and thrive off creativity.

Personally, I think Borderlands 3 being an MMO isn’t a terrible idea, it would allow Gearbox more freedom. Hopefully, if it becomes an MMO they will add in MMO styled raids, not a singular enemy, but a progressive build up to that singular enemy, much like how Bungie did it with Destiny.

The only logical reason that I can think of to why people don’t want Borderlands 3 being an MMO would be solo play, even the Borderlands is always shown as a CO-OP game I rarely see people playing together, personally I can’t stand matchmaking, if I play CO-OP it is with people I know. Although from my experiences of brief MMO play time, I have to say the multiplayer side of it wasn’t an issue, I just did my own thing and when needed to I would join up with other players.

Overall the fear of ā€œBorderworldsā€ which is an absolute asinine name, is completely negligible. When it comes to a third Borderlands, we should be optimistic and not pessimistic, it will more than likely be fantastic.

Yeah exactly and sometimes that creativity pays off big time but it’s never as bankable as an established franchise sadly. :disappointed:

I said my reason already.

No, not why you don’t want an mmo, but why so many people think bl3 will be an mmo.

Because…money.

But I hope you are right my friend.

I could live with an MMO though…if done right. But the thought just unsettles me greatly.

As I said above. The way they do this genre now…works…and is very profitable for them. They have a niche virtually all unto themselves.

Not sure they need to risk that.

What’s the old saying: ā€œIf it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!ā€

MMO is a big MMNO from me. They have created BB to fill the MMO space putting both in the same space seems ludicrous to me.

Here’s the thing for me, being on a fixed income, I can’t justify $400.00 for a console… A new pc is questionable (especially a gaming pc) so I’m prohibited from preordering…
