What did you do in BL1 during your most recent session?

Finished Playthrough 1, went down a few times in Salt Flats and Crimson Enclave ( damn badass engineers).
And got lvl 25 Wildacat from a lvl 32 final boss…

Picked up some stuff on my way, but will put it in An Item of the Day topic.

Finished the remaining short Underdome challenge and got both the achievement and the skill point. Nothing of note other than a slightly-worse-than-current Eridian Blaster. Honestly, I don’t know where all these orange Eridian weapons are coming from up there^^^ - you guys stealing them from my game?!

Curious to know if there’s anything to be had from the longer challenges other than the associated achievement/trophy?

Apart from the “I survived the 20-rounders!!” t-shirt?

No.

It’s certainly an experience to go through, I’m glad I did it. But only once.
Never again.

I think it’s really a measure of how much you value your time. Back then I had blocks of 3-5 hours I wouldn’t mind burning. That and somebody to help get through it too, I don’t think I’d try soloing it.

Hmm… In that case, I’ll just have to live without those achievements! If you had a better than average chance for some decent loot along the way and could break it into stages (like the BL2 arenas), then maybe. But not otherwise.

Yeah, I always suggest buying Moxxi’s, but only for the bank and skillpoints. I mean, I like going through rounds(psycho round etc. is fun), but I’d rather be able to make progress on my characters.

If you can get a team of 3 or 4 competent players, the longer arenas can actually be pretty fun (assuming you block out the time necessary to complete them). But trying to do them solo is certainly very tedious.

Started PT2, it took me longer to get to the salt flats obviously cause everything is harder. Every mutated badass is a strugle, but fun. The best guns so far:

This rocket launcher is a killer and a savior 3x336, taking down lvl 47 enemy is a laugh…

Best revolver ( at least for now ) to use against Crimson lancers

Lil the thrill went zombie hunting. At level 54 having done all the story missions for PT1 & PT2 but none of the DLC in PT1, Dr. Ned’s is a change of pace and then some. Hellfire + Mercenary Class Mod is making short work of it, although I struggled with a Tankenstein until I realized shock regened it’s health and I had the skill where you shock while you phasewalk so I had to stop using my skill when cornered and just blast him to bits. After that he was toast.

update~~~

Up to level 56 after finishing the Generally Hospital missions and them making a run of the Old Haven map. I hate that map because of all the enemy spawn points, but even more so when they can just spring out of the ground out of nowhere. Still knocked it off without much trouble, though I had to make a run from FrankenBill because of Radiance. Gonna respec out of that pretty soon here.

The story DLCs for BL1 really do feel like a proper transition to the BL2 narrative style and humor since they include so much more voice acting, and interactions with npcs that aren’t just generic character models. The gameplay mechanic still feels more more standard FPS to me though. I like it, but BL2 definitely gives me those Ratchet & Clank feels with the combat, and those feels are good.

Working my way through PT2 of Zombie Island and finally killed Crawmerax for the first time. Only took about about 5 or 6 years!
Didn’t get any pearlescents… but I’m looking forward to farming him, now that I know I can kill him.

Watching the highlights of Joltzdude139 play through the DLCs with Brick at the same time I have has been fun, and now seeing another poster at the same point definitely makes the experience more fun.

I finished Zombie Island with Lilith of Themyscira, taking a “L” to Zombiened after getting a little too cocky, and then I cheesed him (which made seeing Joltz do the same after the fact all the funnier). Part of me feel that’s an intentional glitch cause Zombie Ned is a cheap boss is ever there was one. I have 50 brains to turn into T. K. but it just isn’t worth it knowing that T-Bone Junction has so much loot to offer. I went ahead into Knoxx’s DLC at level 57 and have been bulldozing my way though with a static savior and hellfire, but credit where it’s due, those shock troopers & APCs will wreck your shields in a heart beat and all of a sudden being over-leveled means nothing. Seems damage reduction only works one way in BL1 when elemental weapons are involved.

In an effort to play smart and not hard, I am exiting after I finish the missions and turn them in rather than driving all the way back unless there is a side mission objective to complete along the way. Again, it’s funny to see another player do that on a stream after it just dawned on you the day prior. Today I’ll go do the prison missions and maybe the Chiquito Amigo mission line.

Or maybe not. I’ve notice I will start dreaming like I am in a BL game if I play too much, inclusive of aspect ratio reduction, which is very very unnerving to have kick in inside your own brain. It’s like you can’t reach reality via exit & quit.

Update

Did all the Sunken Sea Missions + Payback in two trips down and back (because I had to get the OPC mission objective and Armory Code). Doing it that way spared me having to deal with the blockade so I was able to drive all the way down a back. Next up is the Detonator components and Payback Pt. 2. Got a few random legendaries, and lucked up on a Chimera for the first time. Pretty nifty, but no Pestilent Defiler is the best revolver I have by a country mile.

Still running the Mercenary Com, but I switched from one with ammo regen to one with +52% SMG Elemental Effect Chance. The result is have actually survived Drifter attacks on foot, something I rarely do. Purple Vitriolic SMG has been putting in work, and switching to the Static Savior of Hellfire has gotten the job done.

Just as a heads up, you will miss some pretty funny dialogue by save/quitting back to T-Bone Junction instead of driving. If you’re not that interested in the dialogue, then it doesn’t really matter, but something to think about if you haven’t heard it before.

Revisions galore:

I’ve heard all that dialogue way too many times. All the Engorge ads, Shank giving his testimonial (which is in an odd way the first mention of Nina, who shares a hairdo with Chaz FWIW).

I agree that for someone playing through to get the full experience, it’s worthwhile make the drive. If thy make sure to get every mission before leaving town and follow the mission flows for side quests before advancing to the next story quest until you have as many missions for a particular area as possible they will have to make the drives before going forward regardless. But doing so immediately after lockdown palace is what triggers the first few Ads. I’m pretty sure all the Knoxx dialogue is triggeres en route to a way point or before a map exit so it’s pretty unavoidable.

Sidenote:

For some reason Skyscraper spawned without me having unlocked the mission. What an unpleasant surprise that was. He got me once, and got a face full of helix rockets when I came back for seconds.

Update

Finished the main story and Athena revenge quests to put me at 61 and kick in the Level matching going forward, which has helped with the XP for leveling up as I did Skyscraper and Bugged Out! before leaving for the Robolution! Finally got a Volcano drop and also a few lesser versions of other legendaries I have like a Pestilent Defile and Combustion Hellfire.

Robolution has been a legendary drop bonanza. I got two world drops, and a few in chests. The lockers in the power plant are always very kind for revolvers. I wish the sidequests weren’t given for the areas After you complete the story missions to force you to double back, but that and a lack of fast travel were probably included to extend the playtime of the DLCs to make them seem more substantial than they are.

Also: Divine Wind Claptr4ps are basically Heat Seeking Rabid Barrel Trolls.

Skyscraper always spawns before you’ve unlocked “Drifter Lifter”…which sucks if you then activate it and drive back to the spot where you killed it (my first playthrough when I actually drove back and forth instead of save/quitting).

Went to the Farmory. Still no pearlescents. I’m guessing the spawn/drop rate is better during playthrough 2.5?
INAC should drop them…but I guess that would be too easy.

I have finally finished two of the large arena’s in Moxxi’s Underdome, got some stuff as well…

Today I’ll finish the last one and 100% this amazing game!

I’m in 2.5 and I’ve been doing Farmory and Craw runs for the last week or so like my life depended on it, but no Pearlescents to show for it yet, sadly

After what seems like a good year of playing Borderlands 2 I got back to basics with the original. I remembered my L38 Soldier that had completed the main storyline and had progressed a good ways into the General Knoxx DLC - the only one I have to date as I didn’t get the others.

I just started anew, as the Berserker this time (in pursuit of a Launcher/Tank hybrid build). In the recent session (in which I cleaned out Zephyr Substation), I found a pair of Torgue MGs. They are basically more powerful - probably more inaccurate too - Vladof MGs. But man did they look cool in their gunmetal grey finishes, equally as deadly as hordes of bandits fell beneath my feet.

It revealed one thing I’ve come to solidify with my thoughts on Torgue. The BL1 Torgue is best Torgue. I really don’t like what it’s become in 2 and Pre-Sequel. I can live with most of the manufacturer gimmicks post-BL1 - heck, the Hyperion reverse recoil is hands down my favorite - but I just loathe how Torgue weapons are locked into dealing only explosive damage. It ain’t no Maliwan, at all.

Me and @MidnightNova went through the small tournaments in the Underdome in PT1 and somehow got two Legendaries, a Volcano and a Hellfire. Don’t remember getting anything Legendary besides Equalizers there.

Finished picking Sledge’s brain with a Tediore Matador. Found a Dahl Shredder I can’t use until Level 25. LOL.

Stopped just before powering the Fast Travel Network.

It was during this playthrough that I realized… Launcher ammo compared to BL2 and PS are plentiful.

I took me a LONG time to finally beat all the underdome missions solo. Used Lilith.
