Heh, I also tried the MM and had the same reaction as you. I’d rather just spray the Slagga over the battlefield.
Started with Element Zero on some of the side quest you get after Bright Lights, Flying City. Did the Overlook side missions (killed Henry with one hit- melee Zero is awesome 
) and started the Dust side quests…
The MM is not a close-range grenade. It works brilliantly when all the enemies are far away and conveniently bunched together, and it synergizes really well with a sniper Zer0 due to the flight time. In close quarters though? Nope.
I know, but I love it as a slag tool. I made the MMx4 work with pistol zero, but he has enough distance. Gaige is just too close quarters with how I play for me to get much out of it aside from getting slagged and down, or having to fight without being able to slag the enemies.
It’s not just that. Sometimes the MM just doesn’t target what I want it to and that frustrates the hell out of me.
I’ve only got a blue MM, so maybe that’s the problem.
Did story while also carrying a low-level on my friends list through OP8 story for the XP trickle.

Unlocked OP3 with Krieg, then ran some maps with my friend on Gaige for a bit. Then another person on my friends list joined, so I switched to Zer0 to hit up some raids; then one of her friends joined us, so we had 4p and hit up Terra, Pete, and Son of Craw. Terra dropped a Hide on the third kill, and there was a Lobbed Fire Bee in the loot from Craw. That fool never drops legendaries lol.

Doing all big dlc’s with three other friends, trying to get to 72 before farming for new proper gear. We’re at 64 now, sham Gaige with level 50 norfleets, Zer0 with level 50 pimpernels, Sal and Maya with ±60 Harolds. The only thing we farm for from time to time are new bee shields.
Next to that I’ve got a bloodsplode Krieg build for singleplayer, where I’m getting ready for my first OP levels. Was just killing Pyro Pete over and over again for no actual reason.
I also have a 72 trickster Maya where I’m trying to get a +90% sham for my Gaige once she’s 72. Killed bunker +100 times, got quite a lot of shams (highest at 88%), got 3 world drops including one pearl butcher. But still trying to get that decent sham.
this, I use the MMx4 (x2 is good also) to soften the mobs up before I reach them. upclose never use them, they’ve put me close to or into FFYL to many times doing that.
Leveled a couple randoms at 67 &68 up to level 72, then took a couple randoms level 40 &41, through the Ancient Dragons on TVHM 6 times for a load of eridium

Took my level 51 Gaige back out for a spin in TVHM, and realised I’d still got a ton of missions I hadn’t even picked up. Ended up completing Monster Mash and This Just In, and cleaning inventory a little bit.
Made a valiant attempt to farm the twister with Sal (many hours spent, 5 OOO spawns, 0 twisters), then did the second run on Bloodshot with Gaige on UVHM (side missions run). Went waaaaay better than the story line run, but not great. Took many a knee, but I didn’t die.
EDIT: I also want to throw out there that I made it through Bloodshot without dying, while using no other source of healing than 10/5 in CuT and whatever health vials I wandered over. Granted, the incendiary fastball I picked up was a big part of that.

@Addendum to that – because the MM is a homing grenade with multiple child grenade(let)s, using it around hyper-aggressive enemies like Rabid Stalkers can be tantamount to suicide as those CGs can be R2S’d right back to you.

I decide to make an attempt at spawning Vermivorous, just out of curiosity, so I head to Tundra Express and after a hour and a half of shooting at varkids, a tubby varkid, a buzzards’ incursion and some FFYL, suddenly I notice an ultimate badass varkid; few seconds afterwards a supreme badass pod is growing and then Vermivorous appears.
Surprised that it happened at my first try ever, playing solo, I went on and killed her. I don’t think I’ll ever do it again, but it was fun.
P.s.: Special thanks to the little ruined farm house that allowed me to kill her easily.

UVHM Gaige. Did all of the tundra missions except for the last part of Tea Party (I had an on level Hornet at the time, so saving the teapot for later), took down Wilhelm, watched Sanctuary rise, then got back to it. Sitting right at the beginning of level 61. One more to go until tubby farming. Luckily I am at the massive side quest onslaught after Bright Lights, Flying City so getting to 62 shouldn’t be a problem.

Ran through Frostburn Canyon with my Axton Leatherneck build where I engaged the locals in social interaction; namely sneaking around and popping the helmets off unsuspecting Goliaths who then turned around and murder their best friends. The once tranquil canyon was filled the sounds of gunfire, the ever peaceful screams of rage intoxicated Goliaths, and gunfire from everyone that had some interest in keeping their organs in the general area of their chest cavity. During all of this Lilith was busy playing Yahtzee with two frustrated brutes.

Finished off Caustic Caverns with Element Zero and got the Fridge missions to do next. Took another run at Terra with Memeeme (aka Krieg) but no orange shield yet…
Ran Opportunity and Control Core Angel co-op with my son. Good times, great times!
