I streamed an attempt to do a full clear of Hatred’s Shadow in under 15 minutes. I was past the wave fight at 16:16. With the dragon still ahead, there’s no way I can get the full clear that fast. Had a great time trying!
As chronicled earlier, I had returned to Maya’s OP mission to address a D’s Mom issue only to rest on my laurels and return to TPS. But Maya was calling and frankly I got bored (TPS seems pretty stingy with XP in UVHM…slow levelling).
So back to the Peak to finally get OP8, armed with lots of good advice.
Actually got - after the 5th try - to the assassins spec-ing into Thoughtlock (first time ever using it) - TL kicks ass but too many issues as a newb. Tried again with my regular build and got tromped by the assassins over and over. Lets just say there were a lot of dropped legendaries strewn about (3 Hellfires, 2 Nukems, Mongol, 2 Infinitys, Madhous, etc.) from all my attempted runs.
So I said screw it and went to Wam Bam to relax a bit.
Thanks to my support team @hattieinduni , @VaultHunter101 , @Adabiviak , @Carlton_Slayer , @Handsome_Dad ; and @DaRTH_FuRioN for tolerating me hi-jacking the thread.
I’ll give it a go again tomorrow.
Best of luck! For more Thoughlock practice… I would try it out with an ordinary mob, maybe Sawtooth or the Caustic Caverns (my favourites!), then try a circle of slaughter, then trickier things like rabid stalkers. It took me a while to get used to!
Cleared the 5th round of Magic Slaughter with Reverend Pain- and if anyone is playing Sal I highly recommend the combo of slag Sledge’s Shotgun + shock Practicable Slow Hand- it melts anything not called a skeletal mage. Throw on a Blood of the Ancients that boots health and shotgun ammo (bonus if it also boots pistol ammo for the classic DPUH/GN alt combo) and it’s a dazzling sight to behold
Failed again vs Terra with Queen Scream- the main issue is 2- the beam tentacles and 2- lack of any decent fire weapons (this is a LBT/OC build). I have an Expandified Sawbar and a level 70 fire Lady Fist but that’s it- might have to borrow some items from the other new guys that they aren’t using and give it another go…
Got part way through Lair of Infinite Agony doing both main story and Simon the Sorcerer’s side quest. Unfortunately, the side quest glitched out at the second body: I cleared the area all the way to the chest at the back, then activated the quest item, but the enemies didn’t rise up like they’re supposed to. So, went and helped someone else blast through Overlook, Fridge side quests, and a couple of rounds at Fink’s.
Throw on a Blood of the Ancients that boots health and shotgun ammo
Can you nurse off the Eridium shrines there? I think at least the one in the far corner is usually ammo regeneration. Does your build include Inconceivable? Between the two, shotgun ammo shouldn’t be an issue, and you could use a different relic. Sal generally doesn’t need cooldown help if you’re built into the Rampage tree, but a Shock Bone of the Ancients, Deputy’s Badge (are you using Autoload, or reloading manually?), or even a Blood of the Seraphs relic (if you’re looking after health) might be more useful? I’m sure you’re already rocking Filled to the Brim. I say this as someone who doesn’t play Sal much, so he may very well be burning through that ammo faster than the shrine can produce (between recharges anyway).
Those things are indeed a pain. I’ve had some luck with a Good Touch, ADS to shoot the tentacles’ crit spots, so you might want to go tip Moxxi. If you’re on XB1, I should have some spare level 69-72 gear knocking around.
I had time for a couple more quick runs yesterday. Got a recording up running Southpaw split screen as OP8 Maya with my 11 year old daughter as her OP8 Gaige. Shared that to Reddit, and looking forward to showing her the response. I love being a dad. My kids are awesome.
Also made another speed run at Hatred’s Shadow. Went from the start to completing the wave fight in a hair under 15 minutes. Bee, fire SandHawk, Hornet, Heartbreaker, Quasar, and a Sub-Sequence build. It got very, very busy once I hit the base of the Keep. Have to move a lot and manage line of sight to keep the Bee up and also keep the pace of killing up!
Ditto! Couch co-op with my kids is the best gaming experience I’ve ever had. And I’m not at all competitive with my son over gamer score…
Wow. How in the world have I never noticed the obvious connection there.
Ammo isn’t an issue (I do have Inconceivable but not Auto Loader…) but I’m still hoarding eridium to max out the rest of my ammo slots- if I’m feeling pinched for ammo I always have a Hoarder com on hand
Also, the idea for the Bone is to use something besides the standard issue relic (which, BTW, I do have both a Deputy’s Badge and shock Bone). With the Rev I’ll sometimes go with shotguns in all 4 weapons slots so the extra ammo does come in handy but it’s mainly for a change of pace. The Blood is also useful to pump up his health since this is a Brawn build (the one I currently have is +48.6% health, +66% shotgun and SMG ammo). @VaultHunter101- thanks for the offer but a quick search of my mule data sheet shows a current listing of 206 level 72 items- I’m sure I have a few fire types among them…
Bandit Mechromancer rolled Caustic Caverns and went mobbing. Highlights include getting five kills in one shot with a single Contraband Sky Rocket - topped off Deathtrap’s meter from like halfway down, and Typecast Iconoclast fired four times; my Anarchy jumped from 134 to 143 (Deathtrap would then go on to get 122 Upshot Robot stacks before the mobs vanished). Also, I killed a Badass Varkid that was chewing on Deathtrap’s face right as he was winding up Explosive Clap, which sent the corpse flying back over my head.
I spent the better part of yesterdays evening rocketjumping through various maps. Almost felt like playing Quake.
Tested out some shields with my (OP3) Krieg in Pete’s Bar. Tried him with an ordinary OP8 roid with a lot of success - the extra capacity actually lets Krieg tank with his shield while brawling in a way that’s usually impossible, especially at OP8. Any average on-level one takes a few hits from a midget and it’s down, at which point Krieg’s anti-shield skills kick in and you’re relying on health, so you might as well use a Rough Rider.
But with that higher level and capacity you can take a very significant amount more heat before it goes down, which in turn allows you to do a lot more with guns while still up close before you throw them aside and Release the Beast.
This worked with a standard melee shield and also made a Hide of Terra a lot more effective than at OP8. I also tried a spike shield but that was tougher. Might require a substantial skill and playstyle shift to be sustainable… I’ll keep experimenting.
As much as I love the Rough Rider it’s brilliant to have more options.
Finished Lair of Infinite Agony with BAR-None Gaige, and opted to kill Simon the Sorcerer for suckering me into doing his dirty work. Also grabbed the last vault symbols, which involved multiple runs through pretty much the entire map (because I got confused as to which symbol on the OTDH Loot Map was which). That in turn completed quite a few BAR challenges, so I’m slowly getting back to the level I was at before the BAR glitch. Twinked a whole bunch of gear down the food chain after that. Then got invited to drop in with MayaHelpYou and complete some side quests, but wasn’t enjoying the group much so left and made food for my daughter. She thought that was the best bit, although she liked the Bandit line in Fink’s: “No, I’ve almost completed my comic collection!”
Huh, that’s a Hyperion engineers death cry, no? Never heard a bandit say that before.
Hmm… now you mention it, it might have been during a raid on Friendship Gulag. It’s still a great line though.
HAXXX
Actually starting a allegiance run with a friend he’s playing vladof as Gaige and I’m using bandit with Krieg. We both work a lot so we haven’t gotten real far, but it’s been fun.
That it is. Hyperion personnel have a lot of great stuff. “I can see a promotion coming my way”.
