Maya 2.0 again had my undivided attention. Boring day, though.
Farmed Pete a good bit, but didn’t get anything special out of it other than a bunch of Seraph crystals. Ran the TTAoDK DLC end-to-end. The Handsome Sorcerer hoarked up another NE Conference Call (that’s 2 in 3 kills with this toon; the other was a legendary head). SCORE! Also got the three spell grenades updated, though none was the upper-end version. Back to the Badass Crater of Badassitude, to bully BA Rex around. Coughed up some Slow Hands for me, but none were shock (only one I’m interested in ATM) and none had the Practicable prefix (also only one I’m interested in).
So, I decided to get off my rump and start swinging at Hyperius. Now, this is tricky. I don’t have a good on-level Banshee COM. I have a level 60-something one that’s +6 Fleet and +5 Backdraft (I’d take either for the second skill buff, as it’s just there for running Fleet; the lower level means less of a hit to health). Now, the relatively small health loss for the Banshee COM I have? Fine for my usual purposes, but CRAP for this. I NEED the bigger health hit to molest that health gate. Further, I need it to be +6 to Immolate.
I went ahead and respecced for the fight, once I got to the New-U by his gate. Dropped the 5/5 in each Chain Reaction and Kinetic Reflection, as those are both useless in the Hyperius fight. Added 5/5 Immolate and Ward, because both are quite useful. Also switched the Sweet Release points over to Mind’s Eye; SR is ALSO useless in the Hyperius fight (sad how many of Maya’s skills can’t be used in a lot of boss fights, for lack of properly phaselockable targets), and Mind’s Eye can be helpful for the critical damage buff.
Also lacking an ideal launcher. Fire Norfleet is the launcher of choice here, but I’ve only ever seen ONE and it’s an OP8 example in the hands of my OTHER Maya. Next choice is fire Topneaa, and despite many runs at Marcus’s train I have yet to come across a single one with this toon. So I’m on choice number three, a Badaboom. Plain, straight-up explosive one at that. THANKFULLY, it’s a FFYL thing and I have points in Immolate, but still…
I used to love to use a corrosive Pimpernel on the minions there, but my current choice is only slag. NOT ideal. The Dahl corrosive railer I’ve got WOULD be a good choice, but for two things. 1.) It consumes ammo QUICKLY in a fight with no real hope of resupply. 2.) I want to leave a fourth minion untouched until the other three are down (will explain shortly), and the overpenetrate-and-ricochet mechanic on railers is not conducive to that tactic. I could almost cry at the thought of how many nice blue Night Terrors I’ve sold away, when that’d be a particularly SWEET rifle at the moment. Corrosive Sandhawk is in the picture, though, so there’s that.
Lacking a Chain Lightning is also a bit of a bummer, though it’s not HUGE. At this level (OP2), I can still get away with a straight-up Lightning Bolt. IF I’ve got phaselock cooled down, I can drop that hammer between novas with Grog Nozzle in-hand, and it works for now.
So, the adjusted-for-poor-gear loadout works a bit like this. Bee, Corrosive BotA, Lightning Bolt, Legendary Siren (would swap to Cat if using Sandhawk as primary damage-dealer against minions, but I prefer the faster PL cooldown otherwise). Badaboom, slag Pimpernel, Grog Nozzle, fire Sandhawk.
Work over three minions with slag Pimp until they’re down, and there’s one more-or-less whole still standing. THEN, start working on the fourth. FIRST time that fourth minion shields-up, swap the BotA to FIRE and lay into the old boy with fire Sandy; Scorn to help control the incoming rocket fire. Repeat until Hyperius gets into his froggy phase. For NOW, I’ll keep the build the same and just tape-down the trigger on that fire Sandy, swapping back to Grog Nozzle if/when he knocks my health down below gate. In the future, I anticipate (as I used to do) using a better Banshee COM (+5 Fleet, +6 Immolate) to abuse health gate here and boost my chances when in FFYL.
SO, tried it out in lower OPs. At OP0 (l72), it was a slaughter. Turned-in the mission to Shade, came back at OP1. Still pretty well managed at OP1 (mind you, this is with mostly OP2 gear). Never went into FFYL, and had him in froggy phase the second time the last minion’s shield came up. Seems he’s easier to dodge than I remember. So, that’s where I hung it up for the night. Need to do some OP2 runs now, and build that confidence against him.
Oh yeah, his OP0 self dropped a Pyrophobia, and OP1 dropped a Tattler (90k+ per projectile at OP2, so it’s at least temporarily a keeper). Wanting to get myself a nice Evolution on-level from him. That’s tomorrow’s task.
So yeah, next step is to beat Hyperius on-level with my relatively poorly-equipped Maya 2.0, Acquire a NICE example of Evolution and maybe a better Tattler, and then move on to the Hammerlock DLC before heading back to Liar’s Berg for Claptrap. And maybe farm the Bar Room Blitz for Torgue Tokens, so I can buy a better DPUH.
P.S.- I had been doing Bar Room Blitz with Antagonist all this time. Tonight, I switched up and used the Rough Rider and Breakneck Banshee (lower level, again, so as to incur a lesser penalty to health). SO MUCH MORE FUN! Now that I have a fire Kitten, I feel f’ing INVINCIBLE in there! Kinetic Reflection and Life Tap and Inertia, but most especially KR, in a mob full of trash-tier enemies, just make that such an easy task now. I wonder, though: Do the Burners in there also drop Cobra, or must it be only those outside in the Beatdown?
