What did you do in TPS during your most recent session?

Ok. I’ll work on getting a character to 70 (it’ll probably be Claptrap) and we can team up for glory.

I’m surprised you don’t have one maxed out yet.

I haven’t actually played TPS that much, or at least not in any dedicated way. It came out just a few weeks after I started playing Bl2, so I had a lot of fun messing about with it but didn’t get into mechanics or work on levelling up, I don’t think I even knew what a Legendary was. Then I went back to 2 and got addicted to it and actually figured out how stuff works. It’s great playing TPS now, like rediscovering it.

It occurs to me that I prefer the increased count of game mechanics in TPS but prefer the supporting content of BL2.

My thoughts exactly. Thus the various BL3 wishlist type threads where many of the posts boil down to “game mechanics like TPS, with as much content as BL2”.

On topic:

More Jack leveling. Did the Darksiders thing, retrieved the jumbuck (ding 51), fought RedBelly, dealt with the Meriff. Then concluded with an Iwajira run, though sadly Iwajira gives half the xp in UVHM that it did in TVHM. :frowning: It was amusing trading beam attacks with it using Ol’ Rosie. No notable loot; Belly dropped a Striker, but it was very close to being the worst possible Striker: level 49, blade attachment, Torgue grip. Stock was Tediore, so that part’s OK.

Claptrap was on deck, but had to re-spec after recent co-op missions, so he went to Serenity’s Waste for a quick fight with the Kraggons. So this one Kraggon comes up and hits me, which triggers a wonderful cascade of glorious game mechanics:

  1. He’s got Repulsive at +11, and that Kraggon gets launched out to left field with some explosive damage to go.
  2. 3DD1.e fires a zap at the Kraggon as it’s sailing away from me.
  3. Hyperon Punch fires… that thing takes its sweet time.
  4. The Asteroid Belt fires an Asteroid at the still airborne Kraggon. The asteroid passes the boxing glove and nails the Kraggon while it’s still airborne.
  5. The boxing glove from Hyperion Punch makes contact.

Vexed because I didn’t catch it on video, I’ve been trying without success to get that series of events to go off as smoothly as before. Here’s a shot of a little guy getting some of the treatment anyway.

Back to Athena tonight. I quickly realized that I shouldn’t spend too much time on the “Which of these 6-8 awesome weapons should she equip?” question, since she’s very much in the “You know what else works? Anything” regime at this point. So she mostly swapped back and forth between the glitch shock Hyperion splitter (amazing when it gets the green multi-shot glitch!) and the Cutie Killer for fire. No need to element match in NVHM, and corrosive isn’t relevant for Maelstrom, so there you go, keeping it simple.

Overlook memories restored, Denial Subroutine zapped into submission in record time, then she stuck around killing glitches for a while because why not. Got the first two ranks of the Amplitude Killulation (amp “shield”) challenge by way of the glitch splitter. Ding 34, Shadowtrap released, down to the Subconscious, back to Concordia.

I’m thinking she’ll probably close out NVHM next time by doing some of the side quests. Map exploration in the Subconscious is worth 10x as much as anywhere else, and I’m thinking it’s best to save that xp for when it’s needed more.

Anyway, wow Athena’s fun; I may eventually end up reconsidering my Jack first, Athena second rankings of the VHs…

Went through the Veins of Helios with (NVHM) Claptrap. Had fun zooming around on all the jump pads. There’s still some challenges I have no idea how to get in that map and I’m intrigued by the “space debris”, but all in good time… Got through to the next area and then picked up Infinite Loop and got a Snowball. It’s great coming back to TPS now I know bl2 so well; recognising that grenade as the successor to the Fastball makes it all the sweeter.

Wow, I’ve been wanting to play the past few weeks and I just realized the 3 year anniversary was October 14th. Happy late birthday TPS. lol (kind of ashamed to admit here but I gave in to the dark side and got Destiny. Also got a Switch and have been playing a ton of Odyssey)

I’m feeling a UVHM reset or some loot hax is in order.

edit - I’ve been playing with Athena’s skill tree a little. Blood Rush is super fun, but I’d rather have the points to get there used elsewhere.

  • I can’t get enough Superconductor and Overload. Maxed out with a Rainbow Hologram COM, she gets a 100% chance for each of those to fire (well, 99% for Overload, but still), plus that COM has awesome buffs.

  • In the spirit of roleplaying, I treat my shock/fire damage as an elemental familiar that I summon by getting my first kill with Smite. From there, it enters and burns/shocks enemies until they’re dead, at which point it hops to another until there’s nobody left (or they’re out of range, which is surprisingly far). I’m looking for a name for this li’l guy… Flereous is on deck at the moment. Here his is after a fresh summon, moving to a nearby Tork. The most I’ve had it hop around on its own (by dint of death at its own hands) was three… setting those conditions up is very difficult.

  • The WTF shield combined with a Quasar is an incredibly lethal combination. I’m “prohibited” from this in BL2, but in TPS, as soon as the booster spawns spawn and I can tell where the IED field will be, I throw a Quasar in there. Once they’re bunched, Epicenter will re-converge them, Hades Shackles will grab them all, the little nova from Smite will hit them all, and novas from Wrath Of The Goddess will hit them all (while they eat Quasar and shock IED damage). Very few things walk out of that train wreck alive. If I’m feeling frisky, I’ll toss a Min Min Lighter reload in there.

This Accipiter had just parked in mid air to start a missile barrage in the path of the conveyor carts. Conveniently, a cart happened to be on track, smacked into it, and started pushing it away. I was hoping to see it get crushed on the wall, but it resumed flying after the barrage, and flew off the front of the cart. Still, when it died, Overload went after something far below… a fallen passenger or the pilot maybe? There’s no other Accipiter down there.

3rd edit - I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a Kraggon replenish its health by drinking lava out of one of the nearby craters. Cool!

4th edit - I’m seriously enjoying Claptrap’s action skills. I didn’t really use them before (because he either had a ton of other game mechanics on deck, or the “random” bit scared me off, but I find that more often than not, it picks an appropriate one for the situation. It’s like not using the Crit because you’re concerned about it falling out of your hands. It rarely does this, you just pick it up, and it’s an awesome gun. Most (not all) of Claptrap’s action skills work quite well, love or hate them. I just rolled Gun Wizard with maybe twenty stacks left of Assault Rifle gun routine, and was packing a Hail. Cleared out a full mob of Kraggons (big guys all the way down to nothing) in seconds. That gun was firing fast. The single one I don’t care for is Meat Unicycle, and I just need to figure out how to roll with it.

There’s a Steam guide that covers the jump pads, vault symbols, and worker bots. The wiki explains the non-obvious part of the Eghood challenge. If you want the help, that is - I’m being deliberately vague in case you’re intent on figuring it all out yourself.

I wondered if that was what they were doing. I’ve seen them make that move, but then they died. :stuck_out_tongue:

On topic - Athena side-questing. Earworm destroyed and dubstep enabled, Damsel DeStress rescued, and cookies crumbled. Looks like the splitter is better than either Ol’ Painful or the Cheat Code, not that it matters since they’re all plenty good enough. But may as well take advantage of the three Earworms for as close to controlled testing as one can get in the game.

Onwards to TVHM next time I play her.

Cool, but occasionally annoying. Sometimes you’ll see them attempt to do that in a spot with no pool, which is funny. IIRC the ice kraggons do the same thing with the methane pools. (Eg on Crisis Scar)

Got in the Halloween spirit and Jack-o-Cannoned some things with Claptrap, then loaded up and did Intelligences with Nisha. I remembered the stuff about the BAR symbols and took a pic. A knife and two diamonds?

Also had this glitch corrosive Development for a while, never realized how similar it looks to Zer0’s Butcher.

I’ve been running the Holodome with Claptrap today - just cleared round 5.

  • Hyperion Punch is weird to aim… anyone else notice this? Its target acquisition is difficult to lock down… when it works, it’s awesome (will accelerate and pursue an enemy pretty well); when it doesn’t, it’s less so. The explosive variety with the UCP is pretty epic.

  • Level 5? Yeah, I walked into the vault. It’s like picking the wrong vegetable in Digistruct Peak. :frowning: Afterwards, when it’s safe, there are three chests in there though.

  • A triple-clocked Hellfire or Tannis’ Laser of Enlightenment are insanely damaging.

  • Best Divine Opha death ever: I come down from on high for a slam right in melee range on the center ring:

    • She eats a cryo nova from Cryogenic Exhaust Manifold.
    • She eats explosive damage from my Oz kit (buffed from a triple-clocked explosive subroutine).
    • She smacks me (or something) and destroys my shield, so she takes explosive damage from It’s A Trap… Card (also buffed from the subroutine and heals me a bit). There’s an elemental subroutine on deck for explosive damage, so Element of Surprise fires an explosive nova as well (also buffed from the subroutine).
    • Repulsive knocks her back into the air off the ledge for some explosive damage (subroutine, yada yada).
    • 3DD1.e (my Oz kit) gets defensive and shocks her as she’s flying away from me.
    • My Asteroid Belt shield fires an asteroid at her.
    • Rainbow Coolant fires and roasts her elementally as she’s still airborne. It freezes her before the asteroid gets there, so it gets a damage buff from hitting a frozen target (though the subroutine has changed to sniper rifles by then, so that damage bonus is missing). She also picks up corrosive and cryo DoT.
    • She’s frozen and falling off the edge, and despite all this damage, her shield is only halfway down. This is, however, the map where the lower floor is a sawblade. :sunglasses:

After doing some testing about the It’s A Trap… Card nova, here’s what I think I’ve found: it’s explosive, the damage increases the closer you are to the enemy, and it’s affected by Load 'n Splode (which adds a surprising amount of explosive damage to things).

I thought I’d work on Jack tonight, but storage space issues dictated some Aurelia time instead, so Jack just did another Iwajira kill.

Aurelia headed to Vorago Solitude, did the map challenges (for the last time, what a relief!), got her snick-it outfit, helped Capt. Chef, etc. I’m mildly disappointed that she doesn’t have any special lines with the good Captain, since they’re both dumb snooty fake-British-in-SPACE characters. Oh well.

RK5 dropped surprisingly fast. She used the same blue corrosive TMP that Jack and Athena had used, and it did the job nicely in all three cases. But weirdly fast for Aurelia. I’m guessing it’s Culling The Herd plus a bit of Markswoman combining for a larger dps boost than I expected.

Anyway, ding 25, time to move more stuff from the Claptrap-mule to her, and stuff from Jack to Clappy.

Did Lets Build a Robot Army with Nisha. Always have to have the DPS race with the turrets, it’s part of the ritual. I was kinda worried the game was gonna crash, those glitch Pepperboxes do not help.

Then did a couple E&E kills with Athena (who did make the game crash once) and as I’m grinding purples about to end the night, I got a wonderful surprise. Over 2 and a half years after the lv. 70 cap, but I finally got one! :metal:

A short and disappointing session with Jack tonight. Helped Deirdre, got the stingray, … and failed the jump as I almost always do. 150 stacks of Money Is Power gone. :confounded: I made the jump on the second try and just ran through Outlands Canyon without fighting anything (wouldn’t even have done that much, except the fast travel is on the far side of the map). Found Pickle (ugh :frowning: ), fired the purple Quad into his helmet, and had to listen to him yammer about the quest.

Negligible progress toward level 52, sadly (0.1 level gained tonight). Yay.

Can any1 duplcate me some lvl50 gear im about to start UVHM anim in need of gear for athena plz PS3 NINJAkAoS420 gamer tag

Those are nice! I’ve still never seen one.

I dusted off Aurelia and took her out… got accustomed to her skills again. I noticed that she can’t reload or swap weapons to save her life. She’s got skills that get around this, but still.

I found a glitch Calipeen, with a 4x Loop option. When that triggers, it can be transferred to other weapons (and lasts for a while). Beam lasers with this are insane, and the Proletariat Revolution (especially if you let the magazine get super full) is almost literally an infinity (with a higher fire rate and no weird pattern). This really lends itself to be abused. While I’m not doing that here, this was one of the first times I went after that jet by constantly jumping from pad to pad, and shooting him while in mid air.

I love shooting airborne enemies out of the air… this was one of those rocket-powered Scavs coming straight for me.
