What do you think of Boldur's (insane and possibly broken) end-game?

Except it does block specials. It just doesn’t block CC.
You can block Oscar’s airstrike by looking up for example.
The only thing you can’t really block with shields are things that originate from the ground, like Thorn’s DoT field.

Combined with Shield-Poking he does around 700 DPS at level 10. By the time you deplete his health to where the boost offered by the helix is less significant, you’re either dead or an axe throw away from death.
I wasn’t exaggerating when I said he makes mincemeat of anything he can touch. He is literally uncontestable in duels once he reaches 10 and once the enemy catches on to his damage (and isn’t stupid), his presence alone provides plenty of suppression because nobody’s gonna want to engage him.

Every Melee Character at Level 10 except for Attickus and El Dragon are better than Boldur overall.

Getting to level 10 is an easier task for certain characters. Boldur is not good at level 10 comparing to other melee characters.

His Melee damage is slow, You need good aim with the Axe and either you choose a helix to cover up melee or the shield. It’s either or and none of his helix choices cover up his bad character. His dash is really bad getting out of situations unlike other melees.

Shield-poking compensates for his slowness.
While the shield button is held, the first hit of his melee has very little backswing, so you can re-shield almost immediately or launch another first-swing.
So he can output around 6-8 attacks in the time it takes him to do four (because the last two hits take a long time to come out) while being able to put up shield immediately after. But you must click to a precise rhythm if you want to really squeeze out the extra damage (too early and you initiate the rest of this combo, too late and you’re not doing the damage).

And what the HELL do you mean “you need good aim with his axe”? He doesn’t have any less or more precise hitboxes than other melee characters.

Also infinite shield is a (not broken) crutch for Boldurs who don’t use the environment as cover like every other melee character. 2000(+whatever is granted by the sprint upgrade) is plenty.

Honestly, I think his mutation to cash in his ultimate to restore his health 100% sounds really good, especially when paired with the Alamo-7 legendary (it makes you immune to damage for 5 seconds at 10% health, I think a decrease to 2 seconds would be balanced, because that is the average stun time on abilities. It also has a recharge time of 60 seconds, which I think is okay.)

I mastered Boldur in beta, i mastered him in early access, and i may of been the first to master him after launch. You’re wrong about him :slight_smile:
@lumadurin actually he does, especially with punching. Even phoebe who just pokes with a rapier was easier to hit with than the axe, but rath/galilea are easy mode with broad quick sweeping strikes. Axe is definitely a little trickier. Plus hes easier to jump over, makes it hard to melee people

Boldur is probably the best balanced character in the game. I personally don’t even see his lack of AoE and CC as a bad thing. It’s unnecessary. He’s a tank, the most durable one in the game (3k+ health and 50%+ Dr with boosted attack speed isn’t hard for him at all), and no one ignores you. That’s the most important thing is that you draw fire, making distracted opponent’s easy prey. And how can they ignore you? If they do, you wipe their minions and push on, trashing the objective. It’s not like his damage is bad (Remember, rage + gear can get your attack speed to +40%)

Early on he isn’t great, but just get some attack speed and build/clear till you get rage on dash. Now you can reliably engage. Lvl 5? (Insert Boldur laugh here). You can hold 3 enemies and fight 2 at this point. And level 10 is the mother load. True DnD Dwarven Barbarian Mode activated.

I can hardly go back to Attikus, unfortunately. Unparalleled survivability is a hell of a drug.

His level 10 is fine, IMO. Hell, everything about him is fine. Leave Boldur alone.

Boldur is fine. There are plenty of characters that get super strong at level 10.

Off topic, but as my main, Attikus, one of my absolute FAVORITE things to do is activate Hedronic arc, (preferably when it’s charged, so that it shocks others. Always have your charge running when you can, it adds that extra bit of damage and survivability to all cyborg thralls out there.)and then use Hedronic Eruption for 5 seconds of shock-filled, super damaging, mid-long range shockwaves. With a damage bonus to the Arc, and the aftershock buff to the Eruptions, this will do a ton of damage to everyone, all with very little gear buy in and optimization.

Let Boldur keep his super damage, plenty of other, less popular heroes have there own little way to completely destroy everything in the fraction of the time of Boldur’s dozen 300+ ax slashes, with min-maxed health gear.

And im over here witb 4 kills and 27 deaths. 3 out of 3 matches lost and barely char rank 2… yep… i boldur wrong!

Boulder requires skill and playing to your environment, team and enemy.

Being able to 1 shot minion bots at level 10 is not game breaking.

Boldur gives up his health restore at a chance to stun the enemy… which can easily miss or fail because they didn’t hit something.

Also… come on, it’s level 10. Have any of you fought a level 10 thorn, ISAC or anyone who is paying attention to helix and gear for the end battle?
A proper build should be effective at level 10, it was earned.

You can say he and El Dragon (not that I think both are OP) have a “bad” early game but it’s not that bad at all since people don’t know what TRUE bad early game is anymore. A REAL bad early game would have me make a whole new topic to describe it .El Dragon can hit an early two pretty fast and form then get the other next two levels come fast. Boldur is very functional the early game and has a fuckton of sufficient defense and cc as he levels to 5.

Yes. Kelvin. Kelvin, like Boldur, has a helix option where damage his based on health. Unlike Boldur though, Kelvin’s boosts a skill attack instead of a normal attack.

Ya know, until last night I’ve never encountered any Boldur’s that were a threat because he’s just very small and tanky with mediocre damage output. Until last night… 1896 damage in 3.1 seconds. 1650ish damage in 2.6 seconds. He went 18 and 3 (3 from early game). At late game, it was charge in, kill one. We focus fire and could never get him past half health. He’d come back in at full and rinse and repeat.
I couldn’t figure out where the hell the damage was coming from, but if that’s the deal than damn… I may have to try him out!

Boldur is one of the few hard to play Battleborn. I call them specialist. You can’t just pick him up and dominate. But if you are willing to put in the work of mastering him he is a force to be reckoned with.

It definitely takes some time to get a feel for how he works, what to do, what not to do, etc. but that’s the part that keeps people from doing well with him. That or lack of patience, perhaps.

From a mechanical standpoint, playing Boldur isn’t especially hard.

@THaNaToS_J2 yeah, check out his left side helix at 10. He can really start piling on some damage at that point, but he doesn’t have a ton of offense before then and many don’t have the patience to play a character like that.

LOL. Understatement of the year! Seems like the skill level required to play him is up there from 1 through 9, then at 10 it’s 3 second kills. Reminded me of Rath’s “I win” combo except his was rush in, stun, 2 axe swings, dead. Run away and do it again.
I haven’t tried him yet but tempted to now. I usually play support characters (given they’re a little more dynamic their gameplay) but he seems like he’d be a nice change of pace.

Ahem…sorry.

I haven’t been playing Boldur recently because I’ve been trying to learn some other characters, but yeah, he’s a great change of pace. I am not an aggressive player by nature, but Boldur forces me out of my comfort zone. In a way, he is a melee support…at least when I play him. I don’t focus on kills, but on disrupting the enemy front line and making life hellish when someone tries to mess with a teammate. By terrorizing the enemy, backing them up or not letting them get comfortable, you give your teammates room to do their thing and provide a distraction. I know when I am on a character like Whiskey, I love having someone like that out in front distracting the other team while I stand back and snipe.

Boldur has a way of frustrating the crap out of the other team and making them obsessed with trying to kill you, even when you aren’t doing a whole lot offensively. Then they start making mistakes…

I thought I would ask this here rather than make another topic, but thoughts on Boldur with a really fast Regen rate?

With the right Helix options and gear he can get to 29.80 (7+7+4.2+4.2+7) health regen per second and 43.80 while rage is active. It will just require sacrificing his damage output a little, but almost a 30health regen per second at level 7 sounds crazy to me. Add to that a support like miko/Ambra/Alani/Reyna and his Ult, and I can see Boldur just being a headache to deal with (even more so).
