5 characters at 15? no one will play it then. I have 400 games played. 0 characters at lvl 15. You are punishing the people that know how to play most/all the characters by forcing them to only play a couple. Knowing how to play a large roster should be a benefit, not a hindrance.
The skill gap between CR5 and CR80 is enormous. And it only gets worse the longer the game goes on since you get more and more advantage over them. I have been in games where I was 6 levels up on enemies because they just didnt know how to play.
I truly understand how you feel. I too went through a similar experience with this game when it came out. However the playing field (for new players) is drastically different than it was for us back then. I understand at some point that’s the way it is for any game, but it just seems a bit too harsh at times now. No one is learning or having fun when you get wiped the way some matches are going.
I’m not saying it’s an easy problem to fix, and I definitely don’t think just telling new players to tough it up and learn is the answer either. There needs to be a condusive lower ranked matchmaking bracket for at least a certain amount of time so new players can play, fail, learn, have fun, etc. at THEIR pace, like we did to some degree. If you find it hard to believe I’d suggest digging around the forums more and you will find honest, frustrated new players explaining this very point.
Furthermore go out in the random squads and queu with lower levels and chat with them… I for one have been taking a solid consensus that many (I’m not saying all) are having a terrible experience.
Having a noob bracket would help. Maybe all players with less than ~20 matches played in PVP can be placed in it.
There is nothing that the new player can do about this. The experienced player, however, can do a lot about it. How about not killing the poor new guy? You can see that you are several levels above him, so take it easy on him? Do you really have to be a douchbag and rack up 25 kills?
Yes, isn’t that the point of a competitive multiplayer game?
I think matchmaking is working a bit better, at least in my experience. Been seeing high levels mixed with low levels, which I think is intended to help the prospects get their feet wet.
P.S.: was teamed up with @elle_tee through random matchmaking. GG’s! ![]()
26 kills thank you very much if it wasn’t for noobs I wouldn’t have coopetition.
Were you on console? For PC here in the states it’s a bit more abysmal; I do not see a good mixed bag of experience and new players per team… It’s usually lopsided more than not.
That kind of thing is rare and even me, at CR 88, Master of Montana, Master of Shayne & Aurox (we have like Battleborn titles, almost like nobility!), still has games where my team gets 0 kills and we are totally stomped by our opponents. So if a single stomping is enough to drive someone from the game, it’s going to be impossible to hold on to such a person.
Ultimately I can only speak to my own experience which is that matches seem to be about the same as ever. I’m not noticing a significant increase in the amount of times my team is dominated or my team dominates. Only GBX has the available data to see how things in general are going. Even low CR players are a mixed bag. I’ve seen some that do just fine and I’ve seen others that are terrible (a Caldarius who stood still to shoot comes to mind, terrible way to play anyone but especially Caldi), so I’m just, from my limited perspective, not seeing an issue.
Its not so much that the overall game is completely dominated, Its more the fact there is such a huge skill gap that 3 players on each team are getting crushed so hard, they might as well not even play. The game basically comes down to 2v2.
If thats the worse you have seen, consider yourself extremely lucky.
Yup
PS4 more specifically
Yeah I totally feel you, and I’m glad you’re having fun. That’s why on any posts or threads I’m careful not to make too many assumptions (apologies if I ever come across that way), rather trying to get a feel and consensus. For me it’s not fun to wipe a team nor be on the receiving end trying to teach the new ones. And at least the past few weeks since the matchmaking has loosened up, it’s been consistent for me and quite a few it seems.
It’s not perfect and I just hope there’s a middle ground to bridge the situation.
I’m hopeful the steam summer sale will surge the player base.

Continuing to kill someone who is standing still, not attacking back get old pretty quick.
Watching Marquis stand in the middle of a wave of minions and die is pretty funny the first time. Not so much the 3rd.
Yay to random matchmaking assigning forum members together, haha…
Was heaps of fun playing several matches of meltdown with you, @ArmoredElder
Im not finding the matchmaking too troublesome…
I don’t mind if there are lower levels assigned to the team I’m with…
because some of them are pretty decent, no assumptions made on their skill via their CR for me…
I like the roll on of teams after a match too…
Even if we lose, I’ll keep the team I’m with (one because it’s quicker)…
because I like to think the team will eventually gel, maybe improve, or at the very least, the less skilled players will learn something from the better players…
I just mainly like that the queue is quicker now…
In Australia, it’s been pretty snail like, or wasn’t going anywhere at all…
So I’ll take what I can get…
This is a game…
And games are meant to be fun!
If you find yourself not having fun, but frustrated and irritated…
Then don’t have that level of negativity in your life…
Step away from it (but come back, we will miss you!), and go do something constructive and positive instead…
Sorry it’s a mixed bag of lollies for some…
Good and bad…
Hopefully with future matches, the mix is more sweet than sour.
Are you on PC or console? For us PC peeps across the pond stateside, player count is extremely low, and team unbalances are a lot more common than consoles as far as I’m reading / experiencing.
The fun factor runs dry quickly for new players when a game they want to play becomes nigh impossible to learn pvp tactics, matchups, etc. at their pace (or at least a reasonable challenge) when the competition is 5 players with 200-400 hours of gameplay killing them faster than they could reach an objective. I understand the player count is low and they needed quicker games, but this unbalance is killing off new players. It’s a rock and a hard place imo. Better lower level matchmaking needs to happen, even if it’s just for people with 20-30 hours in… Not sure how to gauge or implement that but it’s the issue at hand and not simply a few team wipes and frustrated gamers… It’s becoming grossly common.
The NA xbox match making isn’t much better at the moment.
I played one game so far today and had a 5-15 WF, a 0-8 OM and 0-16 Toby on my team. I had 112k damage, only one out of four made it past 50k (OM with 54k). I was the only one who built minions, destroyed most minions/turrets and have about as much buildables built as the rest of them combined.
Meanwhile the other team just fed on them.
If this would be the exception I wouldn’t mind it but it’s not, I see more games like this than close® ones.
I’m on PS4…
Never been a PC gamer…
well besides Baldur’s Gate…
Not sure I could be as quick off the mark with a mouse and keyboard, so I think PC gamers are pretty cool/talented individuals
I understand the newbie thing…
But it’s not entirely a turn off getting beat all the time…
I’m new to the PvP/online game realm, normally I just play storymode games (tomb raider, uncharted, last of us, borderlands)…
Battleborn was my first ‘competitive’ game, and Overwatch my second…
Boy did I get beat (dead/eliminated) in Overwatch, I found its learning curve far worse than Battleborn and it has a tutorial/learning centre thingy…
But the dying/losing challenged me to play more, and get better…
But if the player pool is low…
Then I guess that’s a whole other challenge…
Because you are right, no one wants to get beat ‘all the time’…
These things are certainly a test of ones patience…
Whether it’s the patience of getting beat for newbies…
The patience of mismatched matchmaking for vets…
The patience of ‘will I have a successful game’ in general for the Aussie market…
Battleborn needs a free and very large DLC of patience for everyone, haha.
Can you rewrite that in a form that doesn’t hurt my eyes? Not sure why you’d want to post something in a form that makes it unreadable.
Absolutely agree… I too am new to competitive pvp with Battleborn. It was such a good experience for me after launch and the following weeks (despite getting smeared trying to master Thorn out of the gate!). I’m still sticking with it and trying to encourage the new lads to have patience, as you said, cause it’s vastly rewarding.
And btw I sometimes envy console players! I loved playing Borderlands with a controller; my wrists can only take so much mouse and keyboarding before I need to break! Battleborn sure pushes the limits.
That’s awesome you got into Overwatch! Actually I wanted that too but Battleborn sold me since it had more of a playable story mode (even if brief)… I wish that game let you experience the world / lore more!
Here’s to hoping the steam summer sale boosts player count and best of luck with the Aussie player base / servers!
