What if Legendaries were actualy... Legendaries?

Farming for hours to get a Lyuda wasn’t fun at all. I never even got an Unkempt Harold to drop (I had to wait until the Torgue dlc to farm machines). The grind isn’t getting the legendary. It’s getting the legendary with the right parts, anointments, etc.

So I’m fine with the trade-off. At least now I get to play around with an inferior version until a perfect one drops.

I don’t get it. People want them to be even more rare? If you want to make a build with very specific legendaries, do you have any idea how long it takes you to get the item you want? As the system is now, try getting say a Maggie with a Gammaburst anoint. It has taken me over 2 months of playing more than 5 hours every day and I still don’t have one. With the terror gear being added, I’ve been wanting a Ward shield with a terror anoint. Over 800 kills and I’ve yet to see one.

People keep comparing this game’s loot to BL2, but the loot systems aren’t the same and BL2 was notoriously terrible when it came to getting what you wanted anyway. Some people spent over 14 hours getting a Hive launcher to drop in BL2, let alone one with decent parts. I don’t want to go back to that system at all. BL1 was even worse. And as it is now, BL3 has the worst pool of them all with the amount of legendaries and rolls you can get on them. It’s the worst of the three.

In this game, you have classmods with random rolls. Good luck finding a decent one. You have the anoint system. Good luck finding an anointment for the character and skill that you’re playing. You have artifacts with random rolls. Looking for a specific one? Trade or never see it.

I’m very glad we’re at least getting boss drops so it’s actually possible to target farm for certain gear, but if you’ve tried looking for a specific anointment on a One-Pump Chump, or a Hive, or a Headsplosion, etc, you already know it’s already almost impossible to get a good one in an acceptable timeframe.

Please Gearbox, you’ve already listened to people who wanted the Terror stuff to go away so now it’s impossible to find Terror on a specific shield or weapon that drops from a boss. Please don’t listen to people on this. They don’t understand what they’re asking for.

It’s more like bl1 at this point, legendary is another tier. The top tier is now perfect annointments.

This is what I like about the new system - if I want perfect parts/anointments, I can grind my butt off or whatever, but I get to play with a specimen for better or worse without a long wait.

If it were up to me, I’d give certain cosmetics the high rarity: people looking to scratch that itch can still pursue the rare, while players just looking to use a cool gun aren’t sweating that.

That’s one of the things I would change. Once I have a cosmetic item, I don’t need to see it drop ever again (especially as frequently as they do). That’s garbage.

I hope they introduce set items (like Diablo III) where you get a set bonus if you have items equipped from a set. Terror-anointed items work a bit like set items since you get benefits from having multiple Terror-anointed items equipped if their bonuses complement each other, e.g., an item that triggers terror on self boosts weapons which have bonuses when one is terrified.

Another thing they could do is introduce pearlescents or effervescent weapons like they did in BL2 (presumably each of which could also be anointed). They might be saving that for DLC like they also did in BL2.

I almost never get Legendaries. This does not make me happier. On the rare occasion one drops it’s likely to be worthless. If it turns out to be good, I don’t savor it more for the rarity - rather, it makes all the time spent not getting anything seem that much more tedious.

This is really the issue I see here. I see people comparing to BL2 and saying that every orange drop should be a special dopamine moment. But the reality is that this is BL3 and it’s a different game then BL2, there are billions(not even an exaggeration!) of items/combos and even during the week anointed rates were super high, you still might never see what you want drop. I farmed for 16 hours solid to get a certain anointment on a Band of Sitorak during that week and still never saw it. Going on over 100 hours of farming to find ‘Vindicator Ghast Call’, still no dice, I know a streamer who is well over 100 hours of doing literally nothing but farming ghosts and Haunt trying for this drop as well. Imagine a lower rate. I for one do not want to spend years chasing something I won’t get.

Considering this is the only borderlands game I had to nake mules in to fit all the legendaries I am inclined to agree. It used to be special but the magic is dead to me due to the extreme drop rates even after nerfs to it that some people say ruined the game for then. But tell that to the 16 mules I have full while being a more casual player! It needs to be dropped further if you ask me… Here is my idea on how to do it. Drop the legendary drop chance and increase the chance for then to be annointed even more at the same time they make all legs have a dedicated drop source.

Trade offs will have to be made to facilitate that quality of life or no weapons but the best wil see use especially with the drop rates as they are. People will be upset but as a more casual player to have that many mules means that they are being to generous and the game will lose all longevity if it stays that way. Im sure I will get hate for this from the loot nerf naysayers but this stuff has to be said. Please gearbox, nerf these drop rates and increase the general quality of loot to bring the shine back to my life…

Personally…if they nerf the chance of finding the woodblocker/krokatoa i would be ecstatic… beyond that, with the amount in the game, with diferent varients for different characters, its really only special to find 1 that you can use; further dropping the rates will just be making it guaranteed to find an annointed woodblocker. Not having any part in that

Drop rate are not same for all legendary gear, when you farm some boss there is many layers of RNG involved.
And on top of that you have anointed legendary

Well, is it rare if you get 2-5 legendary guns per one boss kill on avrage on M3? Nah… There are over 200 legendary guns in the game, yet I see same guns, nades, schields and relics over and over. Plus no dedicated dropps make farming for a perfect variant pretty much pointless and boring grind of whatever boss is the easyest for your build. Not a great Idea GB.

I get that… but i was just going hard at slaughter shaft till it was basically maxed of legendaries… there were literally 38 woodblockers scattered throughout… only found 2 things i wanted

In many ways I agree with your post, like most I have played every borderland and frankly loved them all

on average I throw away 6 to 10 legendries a day, why ?

I have no room ( working on a mule today sigh ) packs full, banks full, emergency bank kept to 3 spare slots just in case

But my biggest disappointment has been the actual so called legendry’s, because most are frankly ■■■■

Do you not find that soooo many are just gimmicky, silly, inefficient items ? so I end up endlessly disappointed, and lets get something straight, I DO NOT WANT GOD MODE, I just want an assault rifle that shows a marked improvement over the Purple Q System kinetic for example

gunerang, tidal wave, carrier, rebel yell, Ten gallon, flak, Stalker, woodblocker, Bitch, hyperfocus, wagon wheel, companion, boring gun the list literally goes on and on, guns that have to be shot from a specific distance to even hit, and relics that enhance SLAM, who the hell finds them selves using slam all the time on a Zane, if ever, pointless gimmicky items that are just half thought out filler

so everyone ends up Farming the few decent well balanced actual legendry’s in every element, and that has become its own very real problem " elemental" has become way to important, not a nice boost ideal at times. Amara isn’t overpowered she just highlights the overwhelming shift to elemental damage importance

So know we all have a bank full of Cutsman, Crossroads, trevanators, daisy and nighthawkin + Scourge for crowd clear cant really find a middle ground because its either this or something that’s a gimmicky thing that takes forever to kill anything while burning through a tonne of ammo

so maybe less of them but well thought out and usable, not game breaking, but a noticeable lift to a good purples performance

by the way as a separate point on the same theme, why is the base damage on soooooo many assault rifles so utterly piss poor, with pistols, smgs and shotguns simply wiping the floor with them ? Carrier, rebel, kaos, warlord, faisor, lucians, breath, barrage, the highest is 621, that’s a piss poor pistol or high SMG, its a sodding Assault rifle lol

pity we cant add a few basic enhancements to blues or purples that are simply decent guns, a modding facility , id use them all day over the ■■■■ pretending to be Legendary

40 mins spent farming Graveward, or running the trial of cunning ( tether ), once you have the technique will get you at least half a dozen a day on Mayhem 2 or 3

if you would like any tips on completing either as painlessly as possible, just message mate

these things dont need to exclude each other as long as you are getting good weapons. And its true that in BL3 a legendary drop gets my heart skipping a beat but its really just a condiotioned reaction because for the most part legendaries in BL3 are “meh”

And the reason for that is two-fold.

  1. There are simply too many of them
    Legendaries are supposed to be unique but the only characteristic that allows that is the red text aka extra ability. There is an immense number of legendaries with funny abilities that are not really useful, homages to something or just a gimick. Wouldnt need to be orange for that. And of course, cant really just make them hit the hardest, hit the best, insta-kill everything. They need to be diverse.

But with more then 200 legendaries its understandable that most seem to be average at best and only a select few really what you need for your build.

  1. stats are just disappointing.
    regarding displayed damage or stats legendaries really are nothing special. Many rate the same as purples or even blues. Usually their unique abilities enhance their performance. Its just a different approach tho and again, we might be considered “conditioned” from other games where legendaries were both rare AND very powerful whereas in Borderlands 3 many people see legendaries as trash as long as its not that one drop with god roll

Plus, most of them have a pityful value, mostly not even breaking 20k. They are hardly worth picking up and that is the real shame.

Because there are so many, its so many of the same item and I only have 50 back slots.

Too late to roll it back tho. Reduce loot chance now and your players will riot. Blatant Mistake or simply not enough planning, thats not important anymore.

They “could” introduce a new color…turqoise for example and make those items stand out but with the power levels we already have I doubt the game could handle such powerful new items without breaking up further.

I like having legendaries drop dont get me wrong. What I would prefer tho would be most of them tied to specific loot pools like area or boss instead of being in the world pool. That would allow us to bypass a large number of legendaries we dont need/want in the first place. We would still have to farm but we would do it with more intention and not just do whatever as it is right now

You know why I always go for Private Bean? Because hes guaranteed to drop a Westerngun, only the make-up varies. I usually dop him as a warm.up every time I log in. Love the zone, love the gun. I mostly kill Traunt too but I really have no idea what kind of boss-specifics he has, I couldnt recognize a pattern in his drops so far

I haven’t tried any of the trials yet. I’m certainly not going to attempt them on any sort of Mayhem. I did a Slaughterstar 3000 the other day on Normal and it took forever and was exhaustingly difficult. But I got a handful of blues and purples that weren’t at all useful, so at least it was a wasted effort.

What about the Echo 2 grenade? Already exists in the game.

Heard/read that he dropps Hellwalker… killed him like 300 times at this point, not a single one dropped. I’ve also tried to farm Graveward for that gun, can’t even tell how many times I killed him, he dies before he can even move the platform, no hell walker not a single one! I hate this no dedicated dropps so much! I am not even picking up most legendaries at this point.
Most dropped legendary for me will be definitely ASMD or what it’s called, Maliwan sniper, absolutly useless for me.
