What is this mysterious object of mystery?

Found near the middle of the map of Cankerwood, this is there. Don’t recall coming across it in a quest, it’s just there. Any idea what it is?

I’m not 100% sure but I think it might be a geographic easter egg in reference to H.P. Lovecraft’s “The colour Out of Space.”
