I’ve been in a certain music mood lately
I feel less alone.
On a different beat…
Doris Day passed away a couple days ago. She was one of my mother favorite. Especially Que Sera Sera.
That’s how/why I stumble on that little gem. From a “1 post channel”.
Mine for last Friday. Was stuck with it all day. Including the exam. Went well though.
Oh my, that is an ear worm with staying power!
Just like this one:
The video and audio quality of these recording never cease to amaze me!
Now I guess I’ll be stuck with that one!
No “official thread tax” here but I guess I can find something from my YT Saturday morning.
From an old VHS recording but audio is fine.
Gotta Love Alain Caron on the 6 strings fretless bass. (Not specifically in this piece.)
Borderlands min-maxing in a nutshell
Well that deserves another story : in around 1991, Montreal-based Transparence hired a rep to come out to Vancouver to try to promote their line of speaker cabinets (PA and bass cabinets mostly). I met him through a friend (I think they knew each other in Toronto) and he also happened to be a great bass player.
He became a good friend (and teacher too) and I ended up buying a couple of 210 (2x10” speakers) cabinets from him which were, in my opinion, the best available cabs on the market, period. Well Alain Caron happened to use and endorse their cabs too - so every time he or Uzeb were in town I’d get a free ticket and a backstage pass. Great dude. Lots of respect for him.
You might be able to see his down/up thumb technique in this:
Which basically means he’d down-strike the strike normally with his thumb and then pluck it on an up-stroke - but in a way that made the tones indistinguishable - as if using a plectrum.
Unlikely but great cover of a Soundgarden song:
And a Nine Inch Nails cover
Stil one of the best releases from my home country.
Another ear worm. This one from a Discord chat last night regarding Devil May Cry. I made a joke about speed-running the game.
And something with a bit more panache
