Something a little different:
Interesting story behind this guy here - love the idea of calling a movie “Rain the Colour of Blue With a Little Red in It”!

ignore me, just going insane out of nowhere
I’m curious what you’ll post next…
Stumbled onto this:
Listening to one of Canada’s musical ambassadors:
I’m glad I watched enough of these for them to start appearing in my recommendations.
More seriously:
Next time I’m at the local record store, I’m definitely picking up Dummy. I’ve loved all of what I’ve heard so far.
Good choice. Here, in case you need a little more convincing:
Three generations…
Story time.
In the early and mid 80’s there was an underground video show out of my local cable channel called Soundproof. It was on Friday or Saturday evenings late. Probably 10pm til 1am or something. I was young and impressionable - and boy did it make an impression.
They played anything “alternative” they could find : The Residents, Nina Hagen, Dayglo Abortions, DOA and even the x-rated version of Duran Duran’s Girls on Film. I believe Nardwuar got his start there too. Here’s a 4 minute doc about the show if interested.
The show always wrapped up with several videos by Kate Bush (this is where I get my devotion to Kate). I guess these guys were in love or something.
Turbo fact : Kate Bush invented the headset microphone for live performance. Her first was made with a coat hanger. This concert pretty much paved the way - stylistically - for Madonna, et al.
Mezzanine - great album. I’ve heard snippets on it sampled all over the place.
And Laurie Anderson. Nice. She had that great concert - Home of the Brave. Check it if you haven’t seen it. I rewatched a bit of it and it reminded me of Tom Waits’ Big Time concert :
Sunday morning songs:
UDS - what a freaking great band. These guys were usually lumped into the same camp as RHCP but they could actually play their instruments:
I cued Prayer for My Demo but the whole album is 10/10.
Sorry for the double post but I just heard this on college radio and initially thought it might be that The Runaways were secretly awesome (the singer sounds a lot like Cherie Currie from said band) - but they’re new.
One of my favourite bands…
“His musical patterns are all over the place, probably because he’s classically trained. There might be three separate songs within a Zevon song, but they’re all effortlessly connected. Zevon was a musician’s musician, a tortured one. ‘Desperados Under the Eaves.’ It’s all in there.” - Bob Dylan
It’s always a weird bittersweet feeling when you find an artist after they’re gone. Despite enjoying their music you can never quite the shake the feeling that you’re just chasing an afterimage. I went back and watched a couple of Zevon’s features on Late Night with David Letterman. Even in his final months he was still an incredibly humble and well spirited individual. There he was, facing the harsh reality of things and yet he’s joking around just like anybody else. Wouldn’t have ever known he was ill. Makes you appreciate life just a bit more.
