Where are you located?
i said i was East so east coast na
cant really comment on that till i check my steam at home. What times are everyone else getting?
i dont know, i know gamestop lets u pick up the game at 9pm on the 2nd of may so i was thinking itl be weird if the game comes out at noon on the 3rd for steam, i figured the game would come out at 12:01 am on the 3rd.
Doesn’t matter when someone picks up the game at GameStop. No one is playing until the servers open.
And they open…
Presumably at the time indicated by steam
i just thought it was weird a game would come out at noon on release day instead of 12:01 am
and also id assume gamestop wouldn’t let you get a game you cant play early, they payed alot to be the one who can sell it early so i don’t see why they’d let that go to waste if noone can play.
A) they do it all the time (sell games that aren’t live yet)
B) they aren’t paying to sell it early, because it isn’t early
Release on steam in Holland is 18.00 gmt on the 3e of may.
Lets wait and see if gearbox is going to mention a time when the servers go live. There are like 3-4 topics about this but no reaction what so ever
.
Yeah, for the lesser known titles (anything NOT CoD, Battlefield, GTA, or a Console Specific) they sometimes sell them earlier in the night to people so they can go home. It’s not really a direct violation, but when the game is only playable when the server is up (think Beta) then it shouldn’t really matter.
Generally speaking, midnight launches are for major titles (exactly like the games you mentioned). It costs too much to keep the store open for other stuff (varies from store to store) and they wouldn’t have the product ahead of time anyway for most things without a street date. As an aside it can be SUPER expensive for mall stores because they have to power an entire section of the mall and pay for security. In the store I used to run it almost never happened.
There’s no such thing as violating a release date UNLESS it has a street date. Sometimes smaller titles come in way earlier than expected and they go right on sale. There wouldn’t be a midnight launch for a game prior to the street date.
The caveat, though, is that in many cases, if there’s a midnight launch for a major title, if they have other stuff in ahead of time, they will sell it too.
I haven’t played a game in months that didn’t unlock at midnight or thereabouts on Steam, at least by early morning. That’s just weird and I still don’t wanna believe it, b/c I’ve really been waiting for this game - an extra 12 hours seems kind of egregious for a digital release. That’s just longer until the servers get really stressed and eventually fixed if there’s problems.
Yes, but Midnight of which country lol? No matter the hour they choose, it will be midnight somewhere at that time so what you say is validated : the game was unlocked at midnight (maybe not the midnight of the right day tho ).
@Misguided last time EBgames had a midnight release here the shop got a hold up at gun point.
EBgames will never do any midnight release here ever again.
i just think its weird the game would launch at noon on the 3rd (for steam) instead of 12:01 am
Since the game requieres servers and online connection to play, they may be gearing the start time for a time when they can more adequately support the servers in all locations if something were to go wrong. It is actually not that weird for an online game to be available mid day (in fact that is around the time the Beta started as well)
According to my steam, in australia (EST) it will unlock at 1am on the 4th.
According to steam, 3 days and 17h. They could at least state this on the News forum, i could already pre-load and didn’t even knew about it.
