Which type of guns are best suited for Maya?

I am new to gearbox forums, I am not trying to make enemies or start arguments. I hope anyone that reads this thread, and the argumentative tangent that ensued, will be able to see that.

Yes, I read your entire post, and I find it very insulting to have someone making comments like the one above.

People that are new to the forum are usually grateful for all the answers that they get. The OP question is one of many questions that new people ask, and in most of the cases, they are so dead set on getting the ā€œbest gear possibleā€ that they forget that there are other stuff that work really well too. By going directly for the top gear, a lot of people get bored with this game very quickly, which is a shame, because the game has a lot to offer. Trying out lots of different items is therefore a good idea. Who knows? Maybe find something that you normally would sell, but which turns out to be an awesome item.

The reason I brought up rarity, is because there are guns where the green version is better than the blue, despite them both being of the same level, the same prefix and the same parts. A lot of people don’t know that.

Even if you find the information redundant, someone else might find it useful.

Now… Let’s not turn this into a thing. My stupid pride and my rather large ego will get over this in a second. If there are any more questions, don’t hesitate to ask. We’ll help you out as best we can. Welcome to the forum, Mate!

I am sorry that me being irked insulted you, something I never thought I’d have to say. But I agree we should move past this little episode.

You are right about this though, it’s just that your earlier comments weren’t really generalized but directed at me and you made a few assumptions about me specifically…that’s all I was saying.

To elaborate a bit more.

Maya is very much a Jack of Most trades. She doesn’t do great with launchers because they don’t benefit from a lot of her best skills. She doesn’t do great with some grenade guns because again no reaper, no chain reaction.

But thats a small chunk of guns. Most others she can run great. Most her boosts are very generic which is great for variety.

On console, CR used to be quite weak because it was limited by the 30 fps cap of the 360 and PS3. XB1/PS4 saw that raised to BL2, and I’ve since seen (and heard!) CR kick in like a pseudo-B0re, especially on targets like Bunker. I would need to check how deep I have CR specced on my Maya saves right now though - been a while since I ran up Thousand Cuts.

Edit: I think if you search, you should find some videos with CR on PC at high frame rates (@Derch?); that probably would cause problems for XB1/PS4, but the frame rate cap limits the damage you can do. Well, unless you get 4 Mayas in co-op all with CR boosted by a COM and shooting simultaneously… :fire:

The problem is that I’m on Xbox One X, not PC, ao seeing how it affects high end PCs doesn’t tell me how it will perform if I try it. I understand that it’s good, and why, but I don’t want to crash my Xbox One X trying it if it’s not going to be able to handle it, and no one seems to be able to give me a straight answer. Because of that, I’ve avoided it, and been recommending others do so as well. If I’m wrong, I’ll gladly say so, but I have yet to receive a concrete answer on what consoles are able to handle it. I’d rather play it safe and not use Chain Reaction than risk damage to my system because it couldn’t handle it.

From what I gather : 360 and PS3 were dodgy if there was a high density of CR procs. XB1 and PS4 - no one has reported/claimed any issues in the three years I’ve been around.

Why not just try it, if you crash it’s not the end of the world. Also you are more likely to just drop frames than crash

I always had it specced on Xbox 360, never crashed.

This is typical frame rate drop for my PC @ 11/5. Again, the Bunker is the most notorious - so a Fibber vs the BNKR? Not bad at all.

I am pretty certain crashing the game won’t damage your console. The most I see it damaging is your most recent save.

That i wasn’t aware of. I grew up with computers in my life, so I’m used to them, but familiarity is not expertise, so I wasn’t aware of that. I may just try killing B3nkr with 11/5 Chain Reaction and a Fibber just to see what happens, now that I don’t have to worry about ruining my system.

Agreeing with basednate here. I’ve had a few games crash on my XB1 (regular) multiple times without damaging the hardware. (Looking at you, Fallout games!) The way the hardware and operating system are configured greatly reduces the odds of anything seriously bad happening from a single application locking up.

OT. Maya can use any guns actually. You can even check your favorite youtubers worst guns in BL2 videos, then used it on Maya, paired it with a Bee and you will be surprised how well it will perform.

On CR, pseudo boring Bunker, Saturn etc. in not the only real benefit of CR, (plus on console it is not an easy task to do). The real benefit of it is mobbing on a group of enemies.

Funny, i had a conversation with someone i think on reddit or fb saying he hates CR because it is killing him, i tried hard to explain to him that it is not CR’s fault but he is very persistent that it is, so i gave up :man_shrugging::man_shrugging: lol

It does narrow down to your preferences at the end of the day, but Maya gets rather well rounded use out of all gun types, though the SMGs in particular due to her class mod focus on them. Her skills give equally well rounded boosts towards things like reload speed, magazine size and fire rate so even without focusing on SMGs she’s the sort who can pick up any gun and viably improve its use without any trouble.

I play Siren’s 95% of the time, and she is always using snipers and SMGs. Very rarely I’ll use a pistol, almost never use assault rifles, and never shotguns or launchers. Just works best for me.

The only skill of hers that ever causes me a problem is Kinetic Reflection. I occasionally have a problem with it because;

  • Cloudkill last 5 seconds
  • Kinetic Reflection last 7 seconds.

Which means on occasion a reflected bullet will proc Cloud Kill on an enemy I was not focused on, so the ā€œwrongā€ enemy will die from CK. Usually not a problem, only on rare occasions will it mess up my plans.

This. But but not only this. The fact that Maya can hold most enemies in place means she can land crits easier than any other character. This further allows her mastery of ā€œsweet spotā€ guns, most notably the Pimpernel which has among the best one-shot-kill potential in the game. With Chain Reaction and Reaper, guns with splitting projectiles and huge single shot damage are your best friends, and the Pimpernel does both.

Special mention to the Bekah, having a slow moving projectile that splits after a set distance makes it one of the harder guns to use effectively, but it is very effective in Maya’s hands. Maya excels with any gun that behaves in a similar way.

When I see a Maya mobbing with a Legendary Cat, Sandhawk and Bee, it makes me a little sad :frowning: Bitch + Blockade or Antagonist or almost any other shield > Beehawk.
