Dems fightin’ words round here! :yum:

But nah, Battleborn didn’t necessarily fail at all. It was and IS a great game that still has an active player base on PS4 at least.

Battleborn suffered from Blizzard/Activision, in all of their corporate might and god money dropping Overwatch so close to Battleborns release. Battleborn simply got swallowed alive in the Overwatch hype and most folks never gave the game a fair chance that it deserved.

Also, for some reason, Gearbox did all of their advertising for Battleborn nearly a full year before Battleborn was released. When it finally came closer and closer to BBs release date hardly anybody even knew about it(unless you was a Gbox fanboy that had been closely following it).

It’s truly a tragic date for such a beloved game.

Battleborn will forever contain some of mine and my daughters most fond memories.

Damn right friend. Such comradarie in that community. A lot of competitiveness as well, sometimes too much but for the most part a great community.

I still post BB vids to my YouTube channel lol.

Ha, nice.

Just noticed…the second use of “gaming” in my last post was meant to be “drinking”.

I was drinking waaaaay too much back then. So glad I stopped.

There were more than team working on it. Gearbox proper, gearbox Montreal, 2k had a team, 3 different QA teams. Honestly with the amount of serious issues this go around it kind of makes sense.

Gearbox Montreal didn’t even exist until just before Battleborn was released. Then you had gearbox proper finishing the Claptrap dlc for the pre-sequel. Along with the Battleborn proper and dlc.

Honestly, they wouldn’t have been able to do two work on it before then.

Note that I think about it, Montreal is ■■■■ for development. Aren’t they the ones that jacket up mass effect also?

Mass Effect Andromeda disaster was caused by Bioware’s Montreal studio, Gearbox Montreal didn’t work on it. Not even the same publisher, Gearbox is owned by 2K now I think, BioWare is owned by EA. EA closed BioWare Montreal after the mess they made of Andromeda.

We sure have had a lot of AAA flops this gen, many of which resulted in the laying off of devs and sometimes even the closing of whole studios:

  • Mass Effect Andromeda (BioWare Montreal closed)
  • Agents of Mayhem (developed by a secondary team at Volition, secondary team was laid off after the game flopped)
  • Battleborn (flopped, but no staff laid off as far as I know)
  • Dead Rising 4 (flopped, new IP they were developing for years cancelled and Capcom Vancouver closed)
  • Evolve (flopped, Take Two CEO claimed it was a success and would become a permanent franchise for the company, but analysts claim that was a lie, with the game selling just 2.5m copies, low for a AAA, and no sequel has been announced 4 years later, with the developer working on a new game for another publisher)
  • Alien Isolation (sold just 2m copies, low for a AAA and below Sega’s expectations, plans for a sequel cancelled by Sega and many members of the dev team laid off)
  • Deus Ex Mankind Divided (though not technically a flop, it sold less than Human Revolution and below Square Enix’s expectations, plans for a sequel put on hold due to Square acquiring the license to work on Marvel games)
  • Hitman 2 (apparently sold 1/10th the number of copies that Hitman Absolution sold 1st week, unsure of sales picked up later on)

You misunderstood my point. I said Montreal developers. Not a specific one. As in all Montreal developers suck.

Gearbox is a private company. It is not owned by 2k.

Don’t forget that Ubisoft’s main studio is in Montreal, with a whopping 3,700 employees, nearly a quarter of Ubisoft’s 16,000 employees. I believe it is the 2nd largest game development studio in the world, 2nd only to Blizzard, who has 4,700 developers. Ubisoft has a fairly unique development structure, with the majority of games they develop being led by a core team at the main Montreal studio, assisted by multiple teams at their many splinter studios.

Other noteworthy studios in Montreal include Eidos (Deus Ex), Behaviour (Dead by Daylight), Warner Bros Montreal (developing the next Batman Arkham game), and Bethesda Montreal (assisting the main studio with Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6). So Montreal isn’t all bad in terms of game development.

I’m sorry but all of those developers release buggy shazzy games. The only good one is Ubi who tend to fix their stuff, way late. I respect it, but would respect them more of they just released a game that didn’t need a minimum of 6 months worth of patches.

Yes, I’m being pretty serious about it, no I don’t think all Montreal developers are tush stains, as there are several who were forced to relocate for work ;-p

I never had any problems with bugs playing Ubisoft or Eidos games personally, on console, and Deus Ex Human Revolution ran fine on my PC. I hear Ubisoft PC ports are a mess though.

100% it failed.

Doesn’t mean it was bad. It just wasn’t going to be able to stand on its own two IP-feet because it wasn’t Borderlands.

I think about it and I’m very sad. I think there was a lot of Battleborn that I like batter than Borderlands 3.

I think Battleborn’s main issue was the visuals, particle effects often cluttered the screen, and there were some balance issues with certain characters far outclassing others.

I’m so glad I was sitting down when I read this. I never imagined Borderlands having right wing conservative fans.

Well…kinda cool, I guess.

That would be “Hey Ash Whatcha Playin’” and it’s still out there on youtube. Some of the episodes are mediocre, some of them risk snorting coke onto the keyboard (soda pop, not anything alcoholic 'cause none of us drink n 'net, right?).

Really warped, and really delightful.

You think a game with tons of guns where you fire guns and the galaxy’s biggest companies sell guns and you solve every problem with guns wouldn’t have any right wing fans?

I beg to differ.
