Why do very few people play boldur?

Yeah it seems people don’t realize boldurs terrifying end game

I love Boldur. Unfortunately I keep overextending with him, get caught without support, and consequently murderered. I realize that knowing my weakness should make it easier to correct it, but damn I love him too much (and dwarves in general) to not want to go in, axe/fist swinging.

How I spend Boldur lvls 1-4 largely depend on how my team is doing. I do mental checks like this:

  • Has my team pushed the enemy back to their first sentry? Focus on Sharding/Gearing Legendaries and killing Thralls (you can solo the single Thrall as early as Lvl 1 and the duo Thralls as early as Lvl 2).

  • Is my team pushed back against our first sentry? Stay in lane, harass, protect, throw out your stun, try to provoke 3 v 1, turtle, focus down advancing minions, and pick up Shards when possible.

  • Closer match where a lot of combat happening in the mid zone? Stay in lane incorporating strategies listed above but knowing when to teleport back to full heal, kill the Thrall if spawned, spend shards on Bots / Turrets as necessary.

So really it’s only boring because you’ll be turtling a lot waiting for opportunities and protecting. That’s Boldurs playstyle though so you either love it or hate it.

I don’t like his look. A bumpkin dwarf fighter doesn’t appeal. Hopefully a skin with old school plate armor will be made  )

I love when people think ignoring Boldur is how you deal with him, that’s how I get most of my kills as him. Anybody who dares try to ignore me and go for my teammates gets a boldurdash in the face into a wall, melted, and taunted.

Sounds like you found your battleborn.

But the reason not everyone plays him is the same reason not everyone plays Whiskey Foxtrot, or even Reyna. Each character plays differently, and there is a character for every play style.

Too bad 2k doesn’t market that part. If they did, BB would be a top seller.

Part of it is probably people just not digging his design or voice, I know he kind of annoys me. Another part is he really seems like a character that is tough to play well. I know when I have a Boldur on my team it’s a 50-50 proposition whether the Boldur will be a help or a detriment to the team. A person who doesn’t know how to play Boldur can be a real drag on the team.

For me, Attikus is MUCH worse. Boldur actually has great helixes early

Attikus is just a free kill 1-4 I’ve honestly never died to Attikus

49 out of 50 matches are full of Jennerit Babies.

That’s an interesting question, and I think it has to do with him at times being more helpful as a supporting character than the main star of the show.

For example, you can do so much damage sneaking up behind people > stunning + rage > melee huge damage > finish them off with a perfectly placed axe throw as they flee. That burst and the skillful axe toss at the end are some of the most rewarding moments in the game. Especially if you follow it with the ult rune and take focus from the whole team and use them to heal you up. Or even later game where he can go toe to toe in the ring against the Sentry by himself.

BUT

A lot of what makes him great is his behind the scenes kind of work that doesn’t really receive much glory in-game, or in the post match results.
For example, he really shines as a team player in moments like getting and holding the Sentry’s focus in incursion to protect minions and ally attacks on its shield/hp. Or dashing through the corridor on overgrowth and coming up behind the whole team and disrupting/scaring their push with your rune active and taking their heat. A lot of those great team plays involve a good use of shielding and harrying which doesn’t ‘feel’ like you are doing a lot.

So, long story short, to answer OPs original question, even though he can get a fantastic K/D, I think he is played by few because at his best and most team oriented your influence on the game (even though it is great) is implicit, and you sacrifice your glory in doing so.

I love disrupting enemy teams by knocking back a big guy like Montana into an Oscar mike or miko it’s so great because it makes killing miko really easy

He doesn’t work without a pocket support.

He’s in the same boat as Atti right now.

He really doesn’t need a pocket healer he’s powerful with or without a support

Yeah until you rolls into your team and realizes he’s just going to die a very slow death.

Trust me boldur is nowhere near The same boat as Attikus

Boldur can be a game changer used correctly his disruption power is unmatched
