Why is everyone complaining about drops?

I guess it all depends how you play the game. Personally I don’t try to farm very specific items for a very specific build. I just try to make the best out of the gear I happen to get my hands on.

The drop rates for bl2 were gobshite (did you try getting a norefleet before hyperius?).

Getting a legendary drop in this game is easy. The issue is the added layer of stats and anointments. I saw this coming before the game even released. As soon as I saw anointments, I knew what time it was. So I was mentally prepared for the bs.

All that being said, I don’t mind it too much. At least it feels like we get something until we get the drops we actually want.

Generally this is the route I go with on most games then I take what I have to comprise a build I use. The real issue IMO with much of the complaints are people that watch videos and such about optimized builds others have come up with and they think those builds are a requirement to play the game. Then it moves forward to the time and luck needed to get those perfect items that they saw used in said build and wanting it right now because they again think it’s required just to play the game when it isn’t.

Unless it was traded or given to them, odds are those streamers and people posting optimized build videos probably spent more time farming for 1 item than a lot of the complainers have put into total play time of the game. You have a job, life or kid and very limited play time? Cool that means you’re going to progress slower than those people playing the game 8-18 hours a day almost every day. If the dev’s alter drops so you get everything you want when playing maybe 8 hours a week what’s left for the people you’re trying to copy that are playing it far more than you are? There are options to enlist help from other players if you really need a specific item as soon as possible via trading or working with friends. If you’re one of those “I play solo only and don’t accept items from others” people and insist on finding it yourself then you’ve made your choice not to use what is available and as such have chosen to sit down and wait until you’ve invested enough time into RNG for it to drop the thing you want. At which point its not a flaw or problem with drops. It’s the consequences of your own decisions you’re dealing with.

With dedicated pools, one can pretty much calculate the probabilities and time it will likely take to get a specific drop - which I do not find fun at all.

Instead, I would like the game to have enough variety and good gear so that I can get something good no matter which bosses I farm - Something for everyone, even if you are not guaranteed to get a specific item.

Also, as far as I know, the only enemies that cannot be reasonably killed (solo) with mediocre gear, are in the Maliwan Takedown. People have been arguing that it is not meant to be soloed anyways so I can live with that. Besides that, none of the enemies require specific gear or anointments. Mayhem 4 is doable just fine with reqular legendaries. Sure, anointments may make it faster to kill enemies, but they are in no way a requirement.

What I fear is that they make the specific gear and anointments easier to get, and consequently they become a requirement in the future. Then the game would become all about farming very specific bosses in order to get gear.

I’m on vacation now, and even with tons of time to play, the dedicated drop rates could really use an improvement. For one thing, certain dedicated drops seem to be unaffected by the buff, for example Brood Mother or El Dragon Jr.

The larger point is that farming for several days for a boss that regularly doesn’t spawn or drop a legendary simply isn’t fun. I farmed Princess Tarantella (who appears to have had her rates buffed) for 3 days until I found a re-router with the anointment I wanted - albeit, not the parts. On the other hand, one evening of farming Graveward netted me two ASE elemental dmg shields, one of them a Stop Gap. Of course, this is anecdotal, and subject to RNG, etc… Still, the fact remains that farming for dedicated drops is arguably a waste of time compared to farming the regular bosses. Moreover, its a lot more fun farming regular bosses, as you at least get to look and see what you got each time. Even if you want something specific, you may well find something you can trade for the item you want.

Which brings me to my final point - when trading for items it is unfortunately impossible to screen for duped items, and duping and save file sharing is rampant. Low drop rates really encourage this kind of thing. Here’s the kicker - even very high drop rates like on certain enemies in the DLC, or say, Major Beans, don’t mean its going to be a short farm. Getting the right parts and anointments on a 50% or 100% drop rate item still takes plenty of time. I don’t think most people are asking to eliminate the grind, but rather, we’d just like to see smaller disparities between how rewarding regular bosses are, and how rewarding rare spawn and trial bosses are.

The maliwan DLC is BS. You do all that very hard work for minimal results. The effort isnt worth the rewards. The drops are too rare and farming is too time cunsuming. I was trying to get the new mayhem 4 weapons after 4 tediuos hrs i didnt get any mayhem 4 weapons. At least add a new you station for wotan.

I would say BL3 legendary weapon drop rate is too high, but not class mod, artifact.

BL3 make legendary weapon not really legendary.
I still remember I spend how many hours to farm (The Bee) on BL2

I love the drop rates, and having a bit more specificity to items and where they are would be great. I assume at some point there will be a way to reroll or possibly make items anointed. Time will tell.

Glanced at the comments a little bit, and they seem to mutually agree.

Some people don’t like seeing change. I for one sure as hell don’t want a 1/6m+ chance to find a weapon that I want lol

Perhaps i miss understood you but if trading is the best way to get your loot and balance around the people who play 18hrs a day, something is seriously wrong.

Also, why does so many people assume the complaints come from people who copy cookie cutter builds?!

I like to brainstorm and figure out syenergies on my own. Pair stats with eachother for optimal effect and i’m almost certain a lot of people do aswell. Gamers aren’t braindead with the inability to think for themselves… well, most of them.

I sometimes get the feeling that this community is split between 2 groups. One group that want a pregession system that are respect your time imvestment and the other are gambling addicts who don’t care about the actual drop but the rush they get from chasing it, thus want this rush to last forever.

I have over 1000 hours between BL1/2/Pre-Sequel, not the most by far, but enough to say I’m well versed in the series and how its worked in the past. People are complaining because the actual chance to get the item you want is far worse than any other Borderlands title

And here is where the difference starts. A godroll in other borderlands games didn’t have the potential to do literally 5 times the damage of a poorly rolled item. Annointments are so powerful you can create entire builds around them. That’s a massive difference.

This is just plain wrong. It is easy to get most items in their base form sure, but as I stated above the gulf in damage in a properly rolled version and a badly one is so huge it can make said item worthless.

Let’s look at the Cutsman as an example. Boorman Nates has about a 25% chance to spawn and about maybe a 50%(generous) chance to drop a leggo. So we are already at 12.5% of even seeing a Custman. Now factor in over 60 annointments, dozens of gun parts, elemental variety and see where your at? Your talking a fraction of a percent to ever get the perfect weapon. So yeah that’s why people are complaining.

One more factor to consider - the rare bosses generally have 3 items in their dedicated loot pools. This means that even when they do drop a legendary, there is a 1/3 chance it is the one you want.

My son and i farmed him for hours and got zero of them in any form. The ones we have were world drops. Now imagine you need a dedicated drop and you have virtually no chance. Billy the Annointed is a prime example. He has only a dedicated drop and almost no chance of a world drop. I farmed him over 80 times to get his one dedicated com drop. It was not even a good roll. I saw a youtube video where they farmed him 100+ times and they concluded he had no legendary loot drops at all - even though he does have at least a dedicated com.
