Why was Thorny Ol' Rosie Nerfed?

When you say lowered drop rates, do you mean the initial rate the game shipped with? Because sadly those rates have been that way since borderlands 2, in fact in the case of vendors bl2 was even worse. Check the news section, they are tweaking the rates every week for the following month, who knows what may come of it.
I kinda get where you’re coming from when you say you bought the original product, not one with various balances and nerfs, especially since this isn’t even a PvP game where balance is important. Don’t know what to say besides that’s just how things work now. The Rosie practically broke the game’s variety and trivialized things the devs intended to be challenging. If I recall, there was a spell called “binding prison” in Dragon Age:Origins that was similarly nerfed. I think it’s justified when one ability is much better than everything else.

Yup.Totally getting good answers after this.

1 word:
Balance.

Only boss that is OP is EOS.

Droprates were never “nerfed” it’s just you having bad luck.

Not sure if you have any credibillity left.

my personal favorite: It’s been “nerfed to oblivion.” Just throw it away. Completely useless. A pathetic 368% damage bonus?! What is this?

There are going to be players with widely different skills. Youtube should make that obvious. Some guy will always make the hardest boss imaginable seem like a cakewalk. That’s why I advocate difficulty settings in all games, but that’s a different conversation.

In this conversation, I urge you not to harp too much on this one nerf. (And yes, it is a nerf. “Balancing” is at best ambiguous, since it can mean an increase or decrease in utility, and at worst a euphemism.) It’s mild, and still leaves you with a good beam laser, if you can handle the recoil. (Lasers with recoil. I guess that can be called “balancing”.) There’s no need to insult dedicated gamers. They are the most dependable market that outfits like GBX have, after all.

I’ve been playing games since before the Atari 2600 myself. Do you remember how hard those coin-op transplants were? Modern games tend to be much more tractable.

I’m being 100% serious, I don’t think rosie needed to be toned down at all. Part of the reason it was used so often is it was the best choice against the invincible sentinel’s first phase. Think about it. His first phase has an attack that reflects bullets and blaster shots, (If you happen to get nicked by your own bullets it hurts alot.) so the logical thing to do is to just use a beam because you won’t have to worry about them being reflected. With that in mind, look at the best choices in beams not in order:

  1. Vibra pulse- good option for healing, for high damage though, their are better choices.

  2. Rosie- I don’t have to mention why it is a good choice.

  3. Spadroon- high damage, but getting in range for it is risky.

  4. hyperion beams- my favorite beams in the game. With a little sustained fire they are incredibly stable in comparison to rosie. However, what allows them to compete in damage, the bonus 50% crit, is irrelevant because sentinel’s first phase can’t be crited.

  5. Maliwan beams- Good choice if you don’t have a Rosie.

What I’m getting at is rosie seems like it was made for fighting the sentinel. When mobbing or fighting other bosses, lots of weapons can kill just as fast without recoil. I find items and strategies that are the best against raids, for whatever reason, are more likely to get tweaked compared to weapons that excel at mobbing.

Balanced the Shooting Star, Probe and Rosie.

Introduced the Luck Cannon.

Logic?

it was too powerful. there is no ifs, ands, or buts about it. it was ridiculously stupid strong. now it is just strong but still very effective. that being said IVF tossing was/is more powerful and faster than it against the sent and most mobs… so idk… @piphoff has a good point.
ohh and the lil’sent cant reflect a tediore throw at you either. shoot a bullet throw, repeat a few times… dead. and it just demolishes the big’sent even more.
:unamused: i hope they dont nerf the IVF…

If they were going to tone down the damage on it they could have also made the recoil less severe. Otherwise it is just a straight up nerf to the weapon.

If people are angry that the Rosie was nerfed, then they should be disappointed in themselves for never knowing how to use the Rosie properly, cause if you did, the nerf wouldn’t have bothered you.

Explain, please, Ted.

Question. Was I the only one who hated the Rosie the moment I used it? I first used it pre-nerf, and I thought it was terrible. Anyone else?

I am finalky using it heavily.
The recoil IS anmoying but things definitely do die quickly.

your not alone. anyone who had any form of fire rate buff and not using showdown cant hit anything with the maliwan barrel lasers. sort of ruins the point if unrelenting if i miss.

I’m sure this is a stupid question, but if you fire Rosie in short bursts as opposed to continously, the damage bonus wont stack, right?

If you knew how to use the Rosie, it would still be powerful even with the nerf, so there would be no reason to complain.

Please explsin the proper way, Ted.

They nerfed Rosie so the new Legendary Maliwan Lasers in Clappy DLC wouldn’t need 600% Continuous Damage Bonus or more base damage than a Railer to be better than a purple you get just for completing the story.

Most people were complaining that it wasn’t as good as before, but every character can be good with it if they knew which skills to pick, which gear to use, it would make it seem like there want even a nerf to it. Especially Athena/Wilhelm players. I don’t think that the nerf was that big a deal. I cant really explain it more.

I agree and disagree on some things you have to say.
And no,

People who hold a different opinion to what you’re saying are not trolls.
I completely agree that sometimes it feels like GBX goes out of their way
to make changes that people do not want
In that same patch, Rosie + Probe nerf, Iwajira drop rate lowered.
That was uncalled for, IMO.
I believe their response was, “to give players more choice”
…by taking away our choice to use certain guns/farm certain bosses
which, we farmed Iwajira because there weren’t enough farmable bosses
with no set drop locations for most all legendaries at the time.
Iwa = Thingy = Grinder to get what we wanted.
So I agree with you completely.
When its not a PvP game, I can’t quite comprehend why they nerf
certain things that I feel make the game fun to play.
It’s my play experience, at the end of the day. I’m not hurting anyone else.

Can’t quite agree on the boss part.
I don’t believe the bosses are Overpowered.
I’ve done a 2 player run against The Invincible Sentinel using no uniques.
was it challenging? yes. but its not impossible.
Haven’t tried with EOS yet, and yes, EOS is a very challenging fight.
but you can figure out the mechanics. You can see it charging up the laser
or firing its rockets before it hits you to take adequate action
in fact, the TPS bosses and UVHM in general is much easier than it was in BL2.
(No health regen, 1.5x health scaling vs 4x in BL2)

I’ve had my rant on this so I’m not going to do it again
but my thoughts are that the boosting doesn’t have to do with
difficulty as it does with people not wanting to go through the grind themselves.

I don’t do youtube or anything like that, but I found this highly offensive, tbh.
The people you see on Youtube put hours into the game to bring out content
to help US, the community, out, and have helped me out many times.
For many of them its their livelihood and how they put food on the table.
It’s their fulltime job, and I honestly feel how you phrased it was uncalled for.

tl;dr
Sorry to hear about the vendor glitch… that sounds like a pain.
I agree that GBX’s nerf hammer needn’t be so frequent
(though, as people have already said, the Rosie’s still daggon powerful)
since your individual actions don’t impact
how the rest of the playerbase enjoys the game.
Can’t agree about the bosses being OP in TPS, or on the views about
BL contentmakers though… they further the experience, not take away from it
