Not to mention, some people are ONLY buying the game to play as a character that THEY want to play. If this UNLOCK system is in live, I don’t see many people ENJOYING grinding to 38 just to play the character that appeals to them.

If they would like to stick to this method, they need a way for people to unlock at least ONE character of their choice for FREE.

It’s probably so people don’t feel overwhelmed by the amount of playable characters. I know starting to play dota was awful because I couldn’t make up my mind on who to play.

That’s kinda irrelevant when the game has a built in character info tab as well as resources like the internet. @_@ So I personally don’t see why that would be a reason.

Other characters need to be tested. If anything it would work in their favor since new players can play everything a feel like they are excited to unlock (blank).

I get what everyone on this post is saying. I think it’s a good idea that gearbox limited the characters available at the start. It makes you learn characters strengths and weaknesses as you go and maybe a character you normally wouldn’t play. I’m not really into the support role, but I tried out miko and he/she’s actually not bad.

I’ve tested games before, world of warships and master of Orion if you’ve heard of them. Testing games is more than playing just the characters you want. It’s about testing if the progression feels right, letting the developers know about bugs, and character balance.

Exactly. I want to test all content, not only minor part of it. Not everyone has time to get 30+ LVL to unlock content and then test it.
I’m ok with general idea, but I don’t really understand why it’s here in beta. Some challenges aren’t even completeable, so there’s only one way to level up. Some characters have really high lever requirements for beta period. It’s just annoying the people here.

Thats fine and all, however ‘Open Beta’ is generally the dry run s to speak before the release of what the final product will be, and generally gives prospective buyers a chance to try before they buy. That said, those of us with gripes here, likely will be the same, post official release.

EDIT: This is basically our last chance to give feedback before release, in hopes it gets noticed.

We don’t know what their plans are for the open beta, perhaps they will unlock everything for a day or two to give people a chance to try everything out.
I love the progression system and its great that i have to actually work to get to some characters. If Orendi was locked behind a LVL40 wall or behind a “get 100 assists” then you bet i’d pickup a support character and lay down some serious assists or learn another character so i can grind out to 40.
Most paid games have some sort of progression… COD for their guns… Battlefield for their kit equipment… etc.

want to talk about a real grind? a certain F2P MOBA that requires 250+ games to unlock a character using their ingame system while also simultaneously needing to use that ingame system to unlock gear/runes.

The developers need to see how well people are doing with what is essentially the full game. give them a chance to do it

Did you even read this topic? Really you said that? Oh my god.

I say it again. I want to play for example Ghalt or Deande. They have two ways to be unlocked: 38-40 LVL or Challenges which require completing STORY MISSIONS, which aren’t in beta! There only one way to grind 40 levels! If you can’t understand this I’m sorry, I shoudn’t start topics in such place.

Impatience? It’s simple logic. Why content must to be locked in BETA? In Overwatch beta all the characters are unlocked by default. It’s the BETA TEST, not final product. Why I have to waste my time to unlock characters I want to test? Jeez.

Don’t compare F2P mobas or even mmos with BB. In fact BB is singleplayer game, B2P, with multiplayer.

Previous system when people have to buy the characters to unlock them was really good. You don’t need to level up or complete stupid challenges such as Deande and Ghalt have. I have a few coins, and I can buy any character. Unlocking system is good for singleplayer, not for multiplayer.

Also I’m pretty much sure there will be wipe, so no progress will be carried over to full game. Do YOU want to beat 40 LVL and then lost your progress, your time, your nerves, just for testing character you really want to test? There’s no other way to unlock it. Huh? I think not.

Actually, i would. I know full well that I’m taking part in a beta so i can help the developers gain a greater understanding about the game i want to play.
i intend to get to the highest level and master of any champion that i can get my hands on before the 18th. then, im going to do it again when i actually have the game in its final form.

describe battleborn how you want, single player is a mode, like the multiplayer. what you gain in single player, transfers to real XP and real coins and challenges.
Therein lies the real kicker, if you want a certain character, there are 2 ways to get them.
Complete the challenge. Gain the reward.

You’re wrong. There are not always two ways to get a character. It’s a beta, and it doesn’t have full story mission pack, so Ghalt and Deande can be unlocked only by leveling up. I’m ok with that system in release build of BB. But not in beta. It’s wrong.

Hi guys,

Let’s steer the conversation back onto the game and away from other forum users, please.

Topic was modest and polite before you came. It’s another reason to say you didn’t even read this topic.
It’s very funny when you join the conversation, trying to become personal, say something about grammar and then you telling me that I have the choice to be polite. OK
I’ll say it again and again. System they implemented is OK for the final release. But for testing purposes (balance, bugs etc) there should be some less time consumable ways to get the character. I would prefer completely unlocked content though.

Im not sure if youve even played a BETA before reading that comment lol

Name ONE Triple A title which gave you access to every single character in Beta testing, be thankful theres an option.

There are more than enough characters open from the jump for one to decide whether they find the game enjoyable…if you dont want to put the grind into the Beta to unlock whatever character youre interested in then buy the game.

I tested a lot of titles, including BB at CTT. You even don’t know me, and you say something about me. On what grounds you say this?
Overwatch. I already said that. I don’t say it’s better or worse than BB, I say it’s here. Battleborn too, in CTT there were only two or three characters locked but unlocked for some days. I hope this will happen at open beta too.
So what? What else you can say? Go on. It’s funny. I’m pretty sure you will blame me for words I didn’t even say, like some polite and cool guy did already. “so what you are doing here, you think Overwatch is better, so leave BB and go to Overwatch beta, it’s your choice” after I compared unlocking system in beta between two competitor games of two AAA game studios.
I should close this thread (but I can’t) because of people who even didn’t read the thread trying to post some things that already have been discussed. If you have opinion, it’s good, place it here like people already did. If you have something to say for me only (blaming, something personal), go away. And before asking for something, read thread first to avoid unnecessary flood.

Consider that it’s a possibility that they are testing the level system. I got every character in a few days. If they don’t want that to happen in the final game, they can easily look at how quick players are leveling and adjust accordingly. The game isn’t just about the character balance, albeit that’s a major part. The game also has underlying systems that need to be tested as well. Just like when a lot of players complained about servers. That’s part of what a beta is for… to test the servers so that at launch, they don’t crash on people who have paid money.

Just out of curiosity, did you do just campaign? just PvP a mixture? – Curiosity here because I have seen this stated before, yet can’t imagine how it is possible, given I have never even stepped into the PvP, simply because that is either something I avoid all together, or do after finishing the Campaign/PvE aspects. Seeing as some of the heroes are locked behind story completion challenges, and other behind PvP related challenges, some of which are not ‘scaled equally’ in given effort/difficulty. It appears this unlock system is giving 3 options:

1-PvP to unlock this line of Heroes faster.
2-PvE to unlock this line of Heroes faster. (Whether or not the content is implemented or will be implemented any time soon is anyones guess)
3-Do some kind of odd-ball mixture/grind the same mission ‘X’ amount of times, to unlock who you actually want to play eventually.

It seems to me, this current system, is kind of ‘forcing’ players or at least putting them in an uncomfortable/akward position about their level of enjoyment. While testing of the level system is great and all I’m advocating here it needs some serious review. Steam DOES have the return feature now for PC users and I believe it will be used quite effectively if there is not some kind of ‘token’ or whatnot issued to allow players to unlock a locked Heros whom they wish to play, similar to the ones issued for the ‘locked’ Heroes during the CTT. (Yes it seems the unlock system was completely changed, however that does not mean it shouldn’t be changed more.)

I did a mix. To be fair, I put a ton of time into the beta since I had an atypical amount of free time over the weekend and I’ve been wanting to play this game since announcement. PvP seems to level you up much quicker than campaign, though. For the time it takes to get one campaign done, you can probably get 2-3 PvP matches in. IIRC it takes about 2 PvP matches to gain a level.

EDIT: Not that this relates, but it is worth noting that any character specific legendary gear I got was through campaign.

that’d be two or three days of “grinding”, if that’s too much game, maybe that game is not for you.

Who said that everyone has the same amount of free time to play video games?

Don’t assume. You know what that makes you.
