Think what really rubbed me the wrong way was I chased a wounded character/easy kill for literally any other character in the game and got rekt… I was like wow.
If you are playing her for DPS, you’re missing the primary focus of the character. Yes, her DPS is low. Yes, she has trouble getting kills. She is classified as a ‘support’ character, not an attacker. You should have a lot more ‘assists’ then outright kills as Reyna. You should focus on keeping your allies or minions alive and protected over killing an enemy. Reyna alone is weak. You can’t use the overshield on yourself (unless you are playing solo PVE). Her basic weapons damage output are weaker then average. Her plasma pulse can get superior DPS for tearing down sheilds, but that will NOT get you kills, as the bonus damage is lost when dealing health damage.
And yeah, don’t go running after a fleeing enemy. that is a bad idea in general practice, let alone with a support character like Reyna. If you do want to get a wounded character out, get the homing helix mod, tag them with priority target, and fire off homing plasma pulse blasts. You get about six shots before overheat. If that isn’t enough to kill them, leave it. Better to go back to supporting your allies then getting yourself killed off on your own.
My Miko is top-notch at pursuing and finishing off wounded enemies. Guess I was just spoiled by all the other great picks by the time I went Reyna. I’ve finally figured out how to play her more or less, but if she’s your pick and your team isn’t stellar you are going to have a bad time.
That should be the description of every support…
A “support” by definition is there to augment the abilities of their team, and help them do well. If you have a bad team, a support shouldn’t be able to just fix it.
She’s amazing after a few levels, throwing an OS restores shields, health, and gives them an OS instantly, and her mark+slow can essentially CC someone forever once she gets the duration upgrade.
Looking at those abilities, she’s clearly designed to help a teammate win a 1v1 situation… if that’s not what you’re doing, then her abilities aren’t doing what they’re designed to do, so of course you’re going to have a bad time.
I hated playing her in beta. I couldn’t get the hang of her. I too am used to characters that deal damage or are able to get themselves out of bad situations.
Once I gave her another try and have gotten used to her her I like her a lot. She doesn’t do that much damage and needs to rely on others to get herself out of bad situations, but as a support character she is very nice.
This guy apparently doesn’t know how to Reyna. She literally has homing missles bro. “Bad news man, you suck SO much.”
If a heal/support outdamages a true damage dealer/non-healer 1v1, even more people will start to complain.
The problem with Reyna actually is not her damage output. Her pistol has pinpoint accuracy (at least that’s how it feels to me).
IMHO one of her problems is the strength and duration of the overshield. Many bonuses granted by the helix (longer duration, more shield power) should actually be default, while the helix should provide more significant boosts to that utility.
Also the attack of her glove is pretty boring as it is. Since you already have a decent and more reliable single shot weapon it feels like the homing capability actually is a neccessity, and with that you lose the slow effect. Yes, it burns shields, but the projectiles travel rather slow.
If you could fire pistol and glove simultaneously, now that would be a blast (although a bit over the top dps-wise), but I think her glove should function in a totally different way on the offensive.
Seeing most characters are supposed to go just about even in a fight against almost any other character (there are a few boldur-ceptions) but possibly loses a little or wins by a little, reyna is the ultimate +.5/savior character. Her sheild can save people near death, she deals a little dps, she can make targets take double damage and with that ability she can also chase by using homing bullets. Her dps itself isn’t the best but she doubles everyone else and can save people from uttter distruction as well. That said, she’s an advanced character and takes good teamwork for her to work weell, unless you are very practiced with her.
Reyna can look awful unless the following two conditions are satisfied:
- The player is competent with Reyna
- The team Reyna is on is competent
Reyna herself is not going to dominate a match, and a good Reyna cannot turn around a bad team by herself, but a good Reyna on a good team is amazing. She is the best support hero, bar none. Miko, Alani, Ambra, etc., are not in the same league because not only can Reyna shield and heal her team, she can increase damage on targets and slow them, melt their shields, and throw up a shield dome of her own.
However, a bad Reyna, or an inexperienced one, will be awful. You can get by as a bad Oscar Mike by firing napalm grenades all over and get lucky, but Reyna requires finesse. Personally, I am not good with her, but I want to get good with her because having played with a few who are I have seen what she can do and I want in.
Yup, what this last post said. After countless matches, i FINALLY get her, and like he said, in and of itself the best Reyna can’t function without a semidecent team, and an incompetent Reyna basically means you’re down to a 4 man team.
But when she shines, she’s supernova.
If you build her correctly her dps isn’t awful, especially with priority target giving her shots the ability to track the target. IMO she’s the best support character in the game, and definitely my favorite to play since everyone got Gal ruined with all their crying.
Slot for attack speed if you’re worried about damage. It makes a noticeable difference. I run Atk Speed, Skill Damage, and Heal power and I can dish out respectable damage and single target heals. I play her super active though. She’s a great rescue healer and can really push center, harass snipers, focus down Thrall/Heavy Mechs. You just have to have good situational awareness to throw out /land/clutch heals. Currently lvl 14 with her and really enjoy her playstyle. Some of her voice acting though, not so much lol.
I don’t run any attack boosters and I roll something like 10-2-20 every match. Been as high as 17-0.
Just get a friend and run a remade with a ranged DD.
Reyna is stupid simple to play if you premade.
The biggest thing is to alternate between her gauntlets pulse to melt sheilds and then switch to her pistol. If you can mark and pulse them down and land crits she can kill pretty much anyone outside of dedicated tank or damage reduction stacked gear. One of my friends is a great sniper while I’m just terrible. But with me and him in the same zone on a map it’s very hard to dislodge us.
Indeed, if you combine doing this with using the Thermal Equilibrium (Prevents Reyna’s Plasma Pulse from overheating while Failsafe is active) and Slazer Thermokinetics (Increases the damage dealt by Laser Pistol based on the heat level of Plasma Pulse. Up to 50% extra damage) as well as the other damage increasing helix choices, she can certainly pack a punch!
I actually stay away from the slazer personally. The “up to” clause turns me off. I would rather have the AOE on the plasma burst for lane clear help. And I usually go for the cool down in place of failsafe because I like to heal with my pulse. The more I can pulse the more I heal.
And this is what’s great about the characters in Battleborn and the helix options. Two players like us can love Reyna and play her differently due to the helix choices we have made. There isn’t a right or wrong way to do this, it comes down to each of our personal preferences and what works for us.
You know it! It’s cool to try out new ideas too and the gear. I usually run heal power, cool down, and healing recived.
This is my first time reading this thread and I was waiting for someone to mention this.
Homing missiles are a must level 2 mutation. Add on attack speed, dmg, either cool downs or skill dmg and she is quite deadly from any range. While still being able to burst heal for over 500 on an ally plus 500 on herself.
I was playing as Shayne last night and with a random Reyna backing me up we destroyed.
I always have people hunt me down when I play Reyna. and it feels like 1on1 because I can never lock-on to my teammates and give them a damn shield. ugh
