You got your wish. Alani has now been nerfed into the ground

10000000% agree. They should have left that alone.

Yeah, they clearly want to force her to be further forward rather than hanging back.

My issue with it is that you are forcing her into a more precarious position while also reducing health dramatically. As a support, the last thing I want to do is be forced to heal myself. I’ve lost the engagement if I have to do that. I don’t think she needed more distance, but I’ve had preferred to keep it where it was.

It’s kind of odd that when I’m playing incursion I love to see thralls or MX heading my way because that let me build osmosis so quickly and easily.

Yeah, its obvious the GBX doesn’t know what they are doing.

I’m not super excited, super disgusted, or overly impressed.
Most of the nerfs coincide with Helix options that may be taken less frequently.
20% Travel speed reduction on primary is rough, but there is a Helix for +20%.

I am confused on a few things, though.
What players have been asking for on other threads is clearer information on Geyser, which isn’t addressed in the Hotfix at all.
They want to more easily know if that is an allied Geyser or an enemy Geyser, and they want to see the actual Geyser radius of effect displayed correctly.

I think the -18% Primary Damage reduction is good, but still missing a piece in implementation.
The Level 5 Helix Option Karakafruit Express needs to be modified to a static 18% damage increase (or at least a Static 15% with no condition) as an offset.

It’s a 20% reduction to distance, not speed. Sorry, I still have no idea how to quote just one part of a comment >_<

Exactly what Ive been saying from the beginning. The character is a mistake of design. The character should have just been a straight CC/pusher role. Get rid of the heal aspect altogether.

Or

Make her a healer and completely change the whole kit. You will never balance an ā€œattack healerā€.

She would have been balanced if they didn’t give her that torrent distance nerf.

Just highlight it and and little message above will ask if you want to quote it

Consider this…

If she had her original health back and none of the nerfs and no heal would she had been a bad character?

IMO no. She would have still been arguably the best pusher/CC in the game.

Maybe…

But pretty sure they would have had her in the right spot if it weren’t for the one nerf. GBX doesn’t know what they want or what they are doing right now it seems.

First of all, check out that sweet quote job

Second of all, you’re absolutely right. I went to a Gearbox panel at Pax East before Battleborn officially released. They spend a good chunk of time talking about Alani and as far as I can tell, the way Alani originally was was EXACTLY what they were going for. Now, though, it seems like they’re just trying to figure out what changes will bring the fewest number of complaints without and regard for how those changes will actually work in the game.

Im telling ya, that torrent distance nerf was so not cool. I am going to give her a try now, probably alter my gear and see if I can be just as effective.

Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

I do feel like Alani’s combat prowess was a bit overpowered when combined with her healing. I’d see plenty of matches where Alani was leading in kills, assists, and healing given, and I don’t necessarily think it was a case of a dramatically superior player behind the wheel. It happened in Story mode quite a bit, and she was EVERYWHERE in PvP. I’d see individual teams without an Alani, but seldom saw a match where neither team had an Alani.

I’m not sure if ALL of this was needed, so if her popularity falls completely off the table (after the initial period of people abandoning her because she’s not as OP as she was) I hope they may consider giving some of it back.

I actually really like these changes, especially the apparently unpopular torrent range nerf. It makes Alani a risky character like I feel she’s supposed to be, and forces her to actually put herself in some danger whereas before she could just attack from really far away and still get her ridiculous heals onto teammates. She still has Riptide to push away enemies, but she actually has to pick her fights now, try to land Geyser more often, and be legitimately afraid of Rath and Pheobe the way other squishy supports are.

Actually on paper shes more inline with Miko after nerfs…less speed more CC.

You know what Grinds my Gears? When someone is emotionally biased complaining about nerfs while implying said character was apparently ā€œokā€ after the health nerf? No way.

This is precisley why certain people dont respond well to changes, they simply dont have the objective reasoning required to see the grand scheme/game as a whole.

Torrent distance was most needed reduction. Her kit is designed to keep people off her, so no need to cry about her having to get closer. She’s going to play the same way at the same distance taking down waves, but now she hopefully can’t hit snipe perch from bunker , which was ridiculous considering water balloon velocity. She was fun to play overpowered, and now will actually require a persistent balance of attack/heal. She still has the best heal in game and arguably the best helix tree of all heroes.

But here’s the thing. They said they felt the health reduction had brought her survivability to what they believe is an acceptable level, yet the range decrease is also, in effect, a survivability decrease.

Guys I am telling you, play the game. She is a complete joke now. Every time I see her I go straight after her now lol. She is TERRIBLE. Melee characters have officially taken over the game completely. I just dropped 32 kills with Phoebe because 12 were off of Alani not being able to defend against me after I slowed her.

I will keep updating you guys after I play some more games
